Laser Warning NOVA Laser 1.5 KV SCR Triggers, Variable Vacuum Capacitors, Shutter Driver, Etc

Hello everybody. I was just directed to this site by Sam Goldwasser, whom I had contacted regarding some equipment I recently acquired.

Anyhow, I am certain you guys will probably be highly skeptical of somebody who makes their first post in the selling forum, so let me offer up some backstory.

My name is Joe Mattie, I live in Fairbanks, Alaska, and like many of you I am something of a mad scientist. Last year, the HIPAS (HIgh Power Auroral Stimulation) observatory which had been operated by UCLA and which was located a short drive from where I live closed down. Most of their equipment was sold at a local outcry auction, so I bought as much of it as I could afford.

As it turns out, HIPAS was home to quite a bit of equipment from the NOVA laser project. It had been reconfigured into a double pass laser and was used in conjunction with their Liquid Mirror Telescope.

After sorting everything and keeping to stuff I wanted, I have sold a bunch of the remaining HIPAS equipment on eBay. However, I have been hesitant to list some of the more esoteric stuff. I've had a hard time finding buyers for the more high powered stuff and thought to shoot an email off to Sam of Sam's Laser FAQ to see if he had any advice. He directed me here.

Before I get to the items, here is my contact info for your authenticity verification pleasure Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions about any of the stuff, etc...

Also, I am more than happy to create an ebay listing for you if anyone's uncomfortable with my nonexistent history on this forum. (so you're covered by buyer protection and whatnot)

I ship a lot of stuff from Alaska, and while it can be a bit more expensive than the lower 48, it's not too bad.

Here are a few of the MANY MANY items I still have from HIPAS:

1.5 KV SCR Trigger for LLNL NOVA Laser (I have four or five of these). Don't know much about them. Part number on front is LEA78-1298. This document: http://www.osti.gov/bridge/purl.cove...405133-x1iMsW/ lists them as Size D Ignitrons (page 19)

Jennings Vacuum Relays, these things are almost 3 feet tall. Part numbers in the pictures

Unused, New Jennings Variable Vacuum Capacitor. I was fortunate enough to get these big caps in the original packing boxes as they weigh over 50lbs each. Model CVED-5000-0015 Was labeled "Spare Loading Cap" on the box.

Unused, New Beijing Phamitech CKT1000/30/35 Variable Vacuum Capacitor. This one was labeled "Spare Blocking Cap" on the box. Included is a photo of the invoice from June of 2007 where they paid $1900 for it.

    UniBlitz D122 Shutter Driver:

General Radio Company Unit Pulser type 1217-A with power supply.

No Idea what this is. Has some gnarly looking RF transistors in it.

I haven't tested any of this, and wouldn't really know where to begin if I were to try.

No set prices, really. I'm negotiable and up for trades as well. Shoot me an offer!

This is barely the tip of the iceberg actually. If there's any interest I can post pictures of other stuff I have as well.

Anyhow, give me a call, email or pm if you're interested in anything.
