SO your saying transmission straight was an 8% loss? measure the reflected loss im sure it will be alot more. If i understand you correct.

8% loss seems awfully high, you have tweaked the diode rotation to minimize loss?

OK....I will experiment with both reflectance and LD rotation.....

Dave....I just placed the cube ( Mounted in a holder ) directly in front of an older 445 LD one diode set up I have.....The diode in that was aligned to be I in the nearfield. So...there is room for LD rotational adjustment. I am currently finishing my pre-ZQuad test bed....Remember....I wanted to experiment with set-ups with an Ally base B4 I drill into my CU slab. Kinda like one step forward, one step back...one step sideways....then....two steps forward....that would describe my build path with the ZQuad.

We will see what the reflectance loss is ??? Dave....what should the losses be ????? for both T and R ???

Hey CDBEAM ... shouldn´t there be some kind of collimating lens in between these two elements ... Click image for larger version.

    Hey Cat,

There is....standard O-Like colliminating units....Perhaps Optima would be better ?? Dunno ?? Have not had time to fiddle with LD rotation...perhaps I will get up to 95% on the transmittance .....on the reflectance ?? Are these typically close on loss ??? or is reflectance normally lower efficiency than transmittance ??? All this fun !!! Cannot wait untill I get into telescope optics with the reds !!! More " Alice in Wonderland...Down the Optics Rabbit hole " ....challenges...." The meddling fool...As though his ape's brain could contain the mysteries of the Krell "....AGAIN comes to mind !!!

Optima yes better (less losses, tighter beam & with Dave´s barrels no glue, no wobble! Click image for larger version.

I am sure "his ape's brain" can handle telescope lenses without devine intervention... LOL

Well.....Did some experimenting with the LSP PBS. So...by tweaking with the LD rotation...I was able to acheive 95% transmittance .....on the reflectance end of things....well...not as good...even with adjusting the incidence angle +/- a few degrees around 90 deg and adjusting the LD rotation....I would max out at 85% reflectance. I assume this is typical for a PBS ????????? Or NOT ????????? More experienced members ?????? Thanx

Ask Dave about the bandwidth of the PBS (I think it must be broadband = less efficient but works with more colours.)

You can get some of that power back with the optimas !

But U have 2 spend $ for a better PBS...

Well.....Yes...more $$$.....It NEVER ends !!! I hate to waste those coherent photons !!!! The "JML Optical. Part number CPO21361" delivers 95% reflectance per Planters !!! The queston becomes $ vs photons out the front end....as always !!!

Since blue power is cheap I think I wont worry about the loss, just was surprised by it. I worry more about the reflection straight back into the diode hurting it.

Gonna go with a quad build knife edge pairs one wave plated then correction optics. But now I seem to be out of mounts again as this red takes off. lol
