    Default Best DAC with an API?

    What is the best DAC that you can write programs for? I love my FB3 but I really want to write my own software. I have a soundcard DAC but the driver situation is a little flakey. Somethings with the soundcard DAC it stops working and I have to reboot.

    I want a DAC with the reliability of an FB3 but also with API access. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Default The J4cDAC!

    J4cbo's DAC project is the only one I know of that will have something like that. I think another revision is coming out sometime in the future. You may want to get a hold of him and see what he has up his sleeve.

    J4cbo's dac project is nice.. but when is it really going to release?
    I mean I think it's nice that someone also has the hardware while he is developping to make a correct program, so for now the best advice I could give is to go for a dac that is available already
    either QM2000 (which indeed gives most developing support)
    and many languages supported:
    - Delphi
    - Visual Basic .NET
    - Visual Basic 6.0
    - Visual C++

    Or the easylase, comes with example code.. but only in visual basic that is. >.>

    the J4cbo dac seems like it has a lot of potential but the problem with a one man operation is I am fairly certain he has a real job so support might be an issue...

    then again the QM2k is getting pretty up there in age too, so I would not be surprised to see an FB3 SDK get released eventually

    The j4DAC is nice, I'm looking forward to a time when the drivers works. Until then, don't forget the RIYA. I have $150 RIYA Lite's available and they come with an SDK and personal support. Also the Basic is available with ethernet support for just $260.

    Interesting, is RIYA basic this unit?

    Is RIYA reliable enough for professional shows? I haven't heard anything about them though the web site looks familar.

    I want to go QM someday though I can't justify the cost yet. RIYA might be a good stepping stone.

    I have programmed against just about all of them and don't really have a preference as far as the APIs go. They are all pretty comparable. Actually, the sound card DAC gives the MOST flexibility since you can stream to it.

    I have several DACs and whenever I decide to run some shows I always either pull out my Moncha DAC or EasyLase. They are consistently the most consistent in terms of plugging them in and working the first time.

    We have two lines of controllers:
    - FPGA-based (3_in_1 (USB+Ethernet+PCI) and USB+Ethernet models);
    - Microprocessor-based (Multibus line: Lite, Micro, Basic, Pro, OEM models)

    On your URL - USB+Etherrnet model (FPGA based..)
    drlava have written about RIYA Multibus Lite and Basic models (http://riyalasers.com/riya_MB.htm)
    (microprocessor-based controllers)

    Anyway, all types of our controllers have the same API; it is open (by request)
