That's quite a kick up in the heat sinking, no?

Maybe two things are going on here:
1) More heat sinking
2) Lenses that collect more of the light
This may be how they are getting the higher lumen rating from the same components. They are driving the diodes at a higher current (so more heat) and getting more of the light to the light path.
Did you measure the current?

Have you measured the lens diameter and the lens projection from the heat sink on the new types, by any chance?
It's possible Casio decided to go for a slightly larger, longer FL lens to improve divergence. That would amp up the brightness particularly in the long throw models.
Its been about a month since the photos of the modules were posted. Has anyone tested the diodes yet.
