Laser Warning Coherent IonPure Innova 70

Ok I recently purchased one of these guys and do not know the state of it. It is a Bethesda, MD Research lab retiree. It has great tech notes on the side and I can see both ends of the tube and assume it can lase tomorrow. I have no other history on it and having a hard time getting the manuals on it. I am gonna go over to the shop tomorrow and hook it up and attempt to get her running. I align my Spectra Physics 2011 often and am use to aligning it but it seems the adjustments on this one wouldn't be suited for wiggle walking it in. What procedure would be recommended and has any one ever put one in, how bad is it to align. There are an awful amount of adjustment knobs on the back of it, two on the rear mirror and 2 or 3 out on the outer edge of the rear end cover. Second question, since I have no documentation on this, there is a rotary setting on the way out of the enclosure on the business end with a dial that reads like 1-9. what is this for, and a bit further past this there is a tuning prism to select the color I guess. I don't know if these were available as mixed gas or ar only. Any help or input would be helpful as I am not usually a coherent man since my last Antares.

    Cool

    Depends on the laser,
usually fine, course, and search pin

Second question, since I have no documentation on this, there is a rotary setting on the way out of the enclosure on the business end with a dial that reads like 1-9.

Sets beam mode. Intracavity aperture. It can force the laser to tem00

The gas fill are one time capsules on the ballast, leave them alone for now.

I do have a manual, but its for older I70s, and I'd need pic of the insides of the psu.

    Hi there Audi -

Typical I-70, walk in the park.. Not-sure what that 'mod' is, at the nose - you're saying it's some kind of 'prism-assy'? Likely not-needed for operation / light-show-use... Also, those aperture assemblies are easily-removable - I've removed them before and have the silver flexi-bellows and end-plates to put in its' place... and several-extra of that 'hacked' power-cord, just taking-up space, here... Also, have a few-extra of those service-manuals - would-be happy to part with one for the low, low price of USPS...

I can also talk you thru how to easily test for gas-integrity, and, assuming it's a 'glo' , walk / peak them, even-from zero-lasing...but best to chat, live, vs typing it all here... no time, right now...

Hope this helps, PM if ya wanna chat more...
    ciao ciao

The thing at the nose is most likely a turning mirror, and it can go.

Easy to get her lasing, real fast and easy with the adjustment knobs. I couldn't really give it the beans as the generator wasn't big enough to go higher but has great beam profile and could use an optic cleaning. I think I am gonna sell her or trade on some other gear. Probably take it to Timonium this weekend unless any one on this forum is interested, just don't need another Ar on the shelf, rather see someone enjoy it.

I just picked up one of these as well!

Sad because I don't have a way to power it yet.

Excited because this gives me an opportunity to hang out here more!

Visibly, the only thing wrong with it is that they snapped the key off in the key switch. Wouldn't it be crazy if that were the reason why they threw it out?

Also, mine was born in 1990, but had its tube replaced. the new tube's birthday was May '95, and the tube counter shows between 1000 and 1500 hours on it! That's exciting too!

Now, I've read that argons often require a monthly burn, but that larger ones may not need this. Would this be considered a "larger" one?

Most of the newer ones do 4+ watts when new, and if the gas capsules are popped at the right time, at least 3 watts for a long, long time.

You of course get better life if you run at less current.
