    Default Windows 8.1 compatibility chart

I am considering buying a new laptop for laser show use. Crazy, I know since I have several but, honestly they're all second hand stuff I've picked up cheap. My everyday non-laser show use laptop is also on it's last legs. Everything I'm seeing comes with Windows 8.1 which is reportedly a pain in the ass fail by Microsoft that's being forced down our throats. Yeah, I know I could downgrade back to 7 and may have to. But my question is what laser show and other software it's compatible with (or if there are weird quirks). Please chime in if you know an answer:

    Pangolin BEYOND
    Pangolin LD2000

    Pangolin Quickshow
    Pangolin LivePro
    Showtacle Moncha 2.1 and 4
    Showtacle Fiesta 2 USB
    Phoenix 4 Pro+
    Laserworld (HB Laserscan) Showeditor 2011
    LSX (along with Lasercam, ILDSOS)
    Spaghetti
    Spider Player
    Echo Layla drivers
    Entec Pro
    Audacity
    Virtual DJ Home edition
Any quirks with Akai APC40 or Novation Remote Zero SL

May be helpful to keep this as a reference all in one place so if others want to list programs I don't have (or have listed) feel free.

And yes, I've thought about desktops and road cases with workstations and tablets and Mac's and alternate operating systems and everyone elses preferred set ups. I'm asking more about what's known to be compatible with Windows 8.1.

    Thanks!!

They're still out there, Brad. Brand new too. Some i3's and i5's in the mix too.

Thanks although, what I have learned after several varieties of laptops is I really need to see and touch it in person. Touchpads in particular. I bought a brand new HP about two years ago I absolutely despise using and also found out about 6 months after I bought it (when I finally took it out of the damn box) that the sound doesn't work. About $500 for junk that I'd need a USB sound card and speakers and wireless mouse to really use.

I know what you mean. I despise all touchpads, I don't care how "good" they are, I despise them. I know where you're coming from. Happy hunting but maybe hold off for Win 9 -----> http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonke...ew-start-menu/

Let's hope 9 rights the wrongs! I bought 8 the day it came out and it's still sitting in the shrink wrap on my desk at work since I've basically heard very little good about it as far as desktops are concerned. 8.1 fixed some issues but regardless, I've got better things to do than figure out a new OS that's already got a huge part of the user base turned off and new pc sales driven into the toilet.

Couldn't agree more. I just bought a gaming laptop that came with Windows 8.1. After futzing with it for 3 days, I "updated" to Windows 7 and haven't looked back. The dealbreaker for me was when I went to watch Netflix from a browser and was blocked. I needed to download the Netflix app from the Microsoft store. That chapped my ass and was the proverbial straw.

Spaghetti works fine on Windows 8.1. In fact, I develop on Windows 8.1.
