Default Far field alignment using iPhone as a remote camera

    Hi guys,
I was doing far field alignment a couple of weeks ago. I was aligning at a distance of approximately 11meters. After exhausting my flatmates patience by asking for feedback on the alignment, I got to thinking, why don't I use a wireless IP camera positioned close to where the far field beams land and have them transmit back to my laptop.

I was looking for IP cameras and came across a link talking about IOS apps that allow you to transmit live video from an iPhone to another iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth or wifi.

I,ve just tried it with my iPhone and iPad via Bluetooth which is expectedly a bit slow and obviously limited by range. When I get home I'll try it over Wifi.

With wireless wifi N I figure it should be possible to get 50meters line of sight which should save a few kilometers walking back and forth.....maybe I should walk

The app is called camera for iPad. You load it on both devices and it cost $1. It only charges you for one install to.

Anyone else tried this? Got any iOS, Android or other platform apps or hardware combinations that you have had sucsess with?

Interesting idea; I use a small maginifying mirror used for facial bathroom applications. I believe it is a 10x magnification. I place it on the wall opposite my projector, about 10 feet away which gives me a beam spot of about 100 feet away. The mirror was $4 at the grocery store.

Hi Allthat, that's a good idea. It would help a lot when you don't have much room.

I am only using one as I feel a good alignment at 100 feet should be good enough. I saw a 12x mirror at Publix the other day but didn't grab it. I first got it for beam effects but realized it would be a good projetor alignment tool.
