Default Opinions wanted on Laserver Lasers and this Ebay seller

    Hi Folks,

I'd be interested in your feedback on Laserver Lasers in China.

Also this Ebay seller that has been a member since Aug /2002 listed as
" laserverinc " but has a zero rating after almost 4 years.
Does this set off a fraud flag ?
    See " http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...%3AUS%3A1&rd=1 "

    Default Lasever Lasers on E-bay

    Rick;

The laser you linked to doesn't look anything at all like the lasever unit I have. The head is much smaller, the heat sink is different, and the power supply is completely different.

The power supply in particular looks a lot like the one I have in my Alphalite projector, and that laser *does* have issues with rapid blanking. (The power falls off - see this thread for a discussion of the problem.)

My Lasever unit has a power supply with a multi-turn potentiometer that will adjust the drive current to the pump diode in 1 ma increments. It also has a 1/8 inch jack for blanking input. The pump diode current is displayed on a 3 digit LED display.

Perhaps they've re-tooled their laser power supplies. Or, perhaps you are looking at a different model than the one I have. But for sure it's quite different, at least in appearance.

As for the zero feedback rating - I'd say that the only way I'd bid on the auction would be if it was cheap enough that I could afford to loose the cash. (Color me conservative, at least when it comes to E-bay auctions.) It's your call though.

I emailed the seller and found out the blue laser can do analogue modulation up to 30 KHz .
Specs say 1.5mm diamter beam size and divergence less than 0.5 mr with TEM 00
Sounds too good to be true !

Well, the specs look good, and the price is certainly tempting.

I guess it all boils down to how comfortable you are risking $1400!

I'd pay with a credit card for sure - at least that way you'd have some protection.

On the other hand, if these are indeed Lasever Lasers, then one would think that they would have the same quality now as they had a couple years ago when I bought mine. (Though I bought mine from an independent distributor.)

I emailed the Ebay seller and here's the response I received as follows:

" > 1. Do you have a blue 473 nm DPSS laser with power higher than 180
    > milliwatts ?
    YES.
    > 2. Are you currently selling your blue DPSS lasers on Ebay under the
    > seller name of
    > " laseverinc " ?
    YES
    > 3. If you are selling on Ebay why does the blue laser listed as of May
    > 31,2006 not have a safety shutter and looks completely different from
    > your current production lasers ?
Our website is more late than our products. It is a new design of LSR473-
ML. You can now see the webpage for it. The housing with shutter is LSR473-
    U.

So it appears the manufacturer has a new model of Blue DPSS laser and they have been an Ebay member for 4 years without selling or buying anything, but just monitoring the activity without acquiring any feedback. Good luck for any distributors when the factory sells on Ebay.

I think "competition" is possible if we, as a collective hobbyist, start getting insanely creative.

Thats standard business practice for Chinese.

I dont like it because they still have the availability to screw me on a deal. Im not a big fan of losing money.

I had a baseball bat in hand and was finalizing the plane ticket after I had a 2 month wait for product before.

I used to do this for a living, trust me when i say "Dont trust anyone"

Little double pun there... but the meaning is the same.
