    +/- 5 to +/- 18V

I'll look at the wiring in my OPHIR meter in the morning.

    Close, but try this...

The cross between grey and brown are connected.

    That is what Papa needed.

Ok so I was close but needed to reverse the polarity on the batteries connected to the black lead hence the "-15V description" and connect them all like they are in series but with the ground(brown wire) between them.
Awesome. I will remove my previous pictures so as not to confuse anyone trying the same.

So on to the voltage. I see that it is +/- 5 to +/- 18V so would using the higher voltage of 18V be an advantage as it should work with 9V?

last thing anyone know of a little LCD similar to this one that I have that reads voltage but can read 5000mV and displays it that way. This is a little USB charger that gives a voltage readout while charging or not. It could be powered by another 9V cell or even USB.

A 9V +/- supply works fine for the OPHIR 20C-A heads...
two 9Volt batteries will easily work with those heads...
Just remember to cut the supply to both batteries when OFF.

The LED voltmeter in your pic will only have a resolution of 10mW...
    (1mV=1mW) for those heads...
What you really need.. to get the most out of that OPHIR head is
a 20V 4-1/2 digit Panel meter... (look on eBay)

Then you can build something similar to this....

If you're interested in adding Data Logging (like the meter linked)
you can contact me by PM here or on LPF...

    Thanks Jerry. 9V it is.

Yes the one I showed reads voltage with two decimal places giving readings in 10mV increments. I was thinking about this one but it says that it has "Resolution: 0.01V" which has me weary about it. But I did like the blue display.

    EDIT
May have to go with this one. Resolution 1mV but it is red.

I have data logging on my Laserbee II so I am fine going without it as that is a great meeter as well.

I stand to be corrected but I believe Ophir is an Israeli company.

Those are not OPHIR heads being offered by OPHIR...

There was a seller of over 100 of these new SURPLUS heads that was
selling them on eBay about a year ago for ~$40.00 US.
Kenom in all his business savvy decided to design (with Things and
MarioMaster) the Kenometer PRO using these heads...
Kenom DID NOT buy the offered lot.. merely a few heads...

When the OHPIR heads offered to the world on eBay were finally all gone...
I was acussed by the Kenometer Posee that I had purchased all the eBay
OPHIR heads to ruin Kenoms business...

    I DID NOT...

With all the attacks on me on LPF I finally got banned for 4 months trying
to protect my reputation and business ethics...

It is clear that this USA based eBay seller bought all the remaining
    surplus OPHIR heads...
I've been following this seller and in all his repeated eBay auctions to
sell these new surplus OPHIR heads... and he has sold over 60 heads
    to date...

A little update. I am still waiting for my LCD and have not decided on a box for it yet but I did get some time to test it today. I very crudly set it up thanks to 300EVIL's wiring diagram just to see how its readings compare to my Laserbee 3.2W meeter. The Ophir does read 1mW when Idle. I will say I am very pleased with the results of the comparison.

I have to say the virtually instant reading on this unit is awesome.

Here is my crud testing setup.

    First I tested a 300mW 532.

    Ophir 324mW

    Laserbee II 323mW

Then I tested a 445 which came out with about a 20mW difference from a cold start but I would attribute this to the power drop from the 445 in the time it took the laserbee to get a peak reading.

    Ophir 1353mW

    Laserbee II 1335mW
