Default How To Fix My Mistake - Making Laser Projectors Legal

So I happened to buy 3 1Watt Lasers (that I was told were FDA Approved, and lied to) and now found out that I cannot use them. I want to make these lasers legal. I am familiar with working on lasers as I have done so in the past. I just don't know where to start to make them legal. Somewhere I read something about filling out 7 hours of paper work and a variance form (I am familiar with the variance form).

Basically, my goal is to rebuild these lasers so that they are in compliance with the FDA's standards. Can anyone offer any suggestions or lead me in the right direction with what the FDA requires in the laser build to be in compliance? Money is not an issue, however I would like to keep these builds and not have to buy new ones.

I live in the US and have a background in electronics and computers.

I'm sure Marc @ ctlasers can assist as he's done many many variances.

a savety board(however that works) and a emergency switch button to immediatly cut power is required. do not know if that is all...

the meierlight projectors i have seen also do not have the right type of keyswitch

you need to have a keyswitch where the key is non-removable in the on position

after you meet the safety requirements you need to file a product report on it (the long form)

    88-

    1) how long ago did you purchase these projectors? if it wasnt long ago, i would return them. the process and what you are going to need to do to get these certified and varianced are going to be VERY long and daunting process.

    2) requirements for class 4 projectors (which all of yours are).

Key switch (non removeable on position)
    case intertlock(s)
    emission indicator(s)
    remote "kill" switch
    Beam attenuation
beam shutter (not required, but VERY good to have)
PROPER labeling. (not just a danger sticker here or there).
    manual reset
    power on delay

    3) once the above is accomplished, you then need to do your PRODUCT REPORT

    4) Variance Application

    5) Laser Light Show Report

Then you will get your approval and be on your way.

Or, like i suggested, i would return these to china and DEMAND your money back.

Marc, what is the "Beam attenuation"?
Also, how would you go about setting up a delay on a DIY blue? Mine seems to come on very quickly compared to the Laserwave red and "no sure named" green I have in my DIY Series rig.

Gottaluvlasers, do you know any keylock wich is not really big? Ive seen these big keylock cases wich i really cant install due to not having enough room.
I already want a remote kill switch and autokill if ilda signal is lost.
With case intertlocks you mean the case cant be opened without a key?
Power on delay...no idea how to accomplish that...i can always set the show file to play 3 secs later...but imo a crappy savety measure.
And manual reset? Is that supposed to be pushing a button and entering key to restart after using the killswitch?

But i dont think we have the fda on our ass anyways here, but still want to have a bit of savety. I have close to none now.

Either return to China, do it yourself, or you could pay me to do it all for you... I would suggest getting the ILDA Breakout board from StanWax Lasers... That will make the least work for you...
