Hey Adam, I notice your post count hasn't changed since 2006 (and possibly before) and at the current value, even at 1 post per second continuously, it would have taken over 68 years to reach that number! What gives?

Oh, believe me, it's still counting. It's just such a large number that it's hard to notice the changes. (Also, I don't post nearly as often these days as I used to.)

A while ago, Spec decided to change my post count to the largest possible valve for a signed 32-bit integer as a joke. He assumed that when I next posted, it would either roll over to zero, or better yet, cause an overflow to yield a negative post count. Instead, the forum simply switched to a 64-bit signed integer and kept right on counting!

So now I have an impossibly-large post count with no way to change it back (since I continued to post, and no one could remember the original number to reset it once the joke was done). The only way to fix it now would be to do a massive search through the database and re-calculate the number. Spec has said that it would take a very long time, and might still not be accurate due to all the gaps in the database from past upgrades that didn't go well. Thus, it's not worth the effort.

I'm cool with that...

EDIT: Around the same time, once we discovered that the forum would auto-switch to 64-bit integers when needed, Spec changed another user's post count around the same time to be exactly 1 higher than my new number. It didn't last though, because at that time I was probably posting 15-20 messages a day. Can't remember who the other guy was though - it's been a few years.

This really is letting the side down as per the title of this thread.

I would be grateful if somethings remained constant in this ever changing World so that I may sleep better at night.
