    Default USB extender (over IP)

Has anyone had luck extending a FB3 over ethernet?

If so, can you please recommend a product?

    Cheers.

Hi Wayne, I bought some cheap USB to RJ-45 adapters that seem to work fine over a 50 meter CAT5 cable. I demo'ed these at our recent Melbourne catch up with Kit, Dave and the gang.

You could always use a powered USB hub at the receiving end to help the signal.

...but I realise this isn't over IP.

Cool, thanks. I would not have thought USB would work over Cat5 cable, as the spec is about 5M max from memory.

I'll try this out, if it works ok I will mount the FB3 inside the projector!

    Cheers!

Interesting... I wonder if this is just a wiring "trick" like the adapters I mentioned, or if there's any electronics behind it.

I use one of those USB over CAT5 extenders on my workstation at home (computer is in the other side of the house so I can't hear the noise - use a DVI over 2x CAT5E for video)... works fine... I have a USB hub on the end with my keyboard/mouse/USB sound card/FB3 and Enttec DMX adapter

That is just what I am looking for! It's a pity that unit only supports USB 1.1 (12mbps) as that's insufficient neddies to run an FB3.
