5 people dead so far... the national weather service had issued a severe weather notice and its obvious that the winds were pretty serious... that kind of truss frame stage is not meant to survive what looked almost like tropical storm force winds... plus the huge wind-loading from the fabric covering on top... I'm amazed it didn't come down sooner

they should have canceled that concert

If like me you don't have a Youtube account, you can also watch a news report of it here:

    Terrible accident.

Thank god it happened to an otherwise empty stage. Had the band been on stage, there would have been many more people including the band and support staff on stage at the time.

Equally if it had been the grand stand.... it doesn't even bear thinking about with a crowd that large.

Thank god once more that because of the weather, not many people were crowded in front of the stage. Had the ground been packed solid right to the front of the stage, again...

My sympathies go out to the families of those affected.

Yes, a terrible incident, we've been discussing this on another forum. I believe a number of the deceased were lighting crew.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

It probably didn't help that the PA hangs were on the structure too. We would normally see these on a separate truss/lift structure.

I just hope none of the lighting guys were on follow spots in the grid, must've been terrible.

Shits me off how they continued the event in winds like that, all those lives that could have been saved if they were smart and called it off!

Quite sad how the stupidity of the event managers lead to the deaths of innocent people. I bet they won't be doing another event for quite some time with the liability claims they'll get from that one!

Ive ran into several situations on tour with weather and outdoor stages and first thing we do in lower all the lighting trusses in as low as we can get them in and insist that the roof be lowered also until the weather passes or we DONT DO THE ShOW

A structure that size should have at least one anemometer on it anyway, as soon as it goes over rated wind speed, they should put into place any measures necessary as specified in their method statement/H&S docs.

As soon as the stage hit the ground the audience stopped, turned around and ran back to start rescuing people. And a quick thinking electrical engineer cut the power to the stage as it was falling, probably saving lives. As bad as it was people were killed and hurt, it's very cool that people did the right things in the middle of chaos.
