eah- I never forget the person but I am not the best at names- At least I didnt also call 'flecom' John.

A mini meeting was held over beer and guacamole at Papa ito's (formally Papasito's until the 's' burned out on thier sign)

Greg and I saw Tim Walsh do his laser show at Dillards Houston. Next meeting is next Fri. in Pearland Tx. as Tim has another show there. Anyone needing answers please let us know and while there
we will try to get answers all questions that come up this week.

A post on this meeting will go up in the Planning TEXLEM thread. Lots of new info. Sounding better all the time.

This is going to be a great LEM.
So... "LETS GET THIS STARTY PARTED!"
    edit--
I wanted to know about LEM's and the ins and outs while at SELEM 2010- in between our work there Buffo and I had several good Q&A sesssions which later at my pop=up Mini LEM in Freeport came in very handy. John(or anyone wanting to do thier own LEM) would be wise to attend TEXLEM as he will have a chance to talk with Adam at length and maybe Adam will hold a little seminar on LEMs and also he has offered to teach tuning for those building PJs ( thank god--I need that!!)

Tim is saying--Greg! Len! Why so serious??
We say LEMs are serious stuff!!(seriously great fun)

Great newz about TEXLEM-- our dates Feb 3.4 & 5 are locked in. From Tim's discription it sounds like a super venue and at a bargain. We hope to make a donation to URBAN 15 of $25 per forum member attendees, AFAIK the cost will be $60 this needs to be paid soon and we need your shirt size(s) We are asking the guests of attendees to pay 20$ each . This would entitle them to enjoy all the shows and join us for the Sat nite feast. They may also order a shirt ( for now $15 +/-) each- Greg is still working out the cost with the shirt connection- a nice embrodered quality T preshrunk.

A very limited number of extra shirts may be available at the event but we suggest you order what you want soon- the cut-off date for the shirts TBA. prolly the last week in Dec or thereabouts.

The venue has 10 'dorm rooms' were we can stay free, however you will need to bring an air mat /foam pad etc and your own sleeping bag/pillow etc-- call it indoor camping. I will bring two extra airmattresses if someone cannot obtain thier own.

We can use help early on Friday to do the set-up. We need volunteers to head up some committees. PM Greg if you are up to this. Greg will fill you in on other info we learned tonite from Tim. A PP is going to be set up for the payments.
We were also in agreement about minors at the show- LEMs are not the best place for youngsters- If you want to discuss this please PM Greg.

Or..Pose your questions in this thread .

    Edit Update
We (Greg and I) met again with Tim and saw his very nice laser show at the Xmas Tree lighting ceremony in Pearland Tx.

We meet next Fri at the venue and soon after pics will be posted of URBAN 15 inside and out.
AixiZ Lasers has been very generous to SELEM 2010 and 2011. Dr Chuck has stepped up as a sponsor of TEXLEM and will try to attend if he can get time off. He is running for County Commissioner and is heavily involved with the US Coast Guard and his family and AixiZ.

He has promised to donate some nice laser items as he has done for SELEM the last two years.

Chuck has really stepped up with a donation to one lucky attendee(forum memebers- not guests) with a Pangolin Quick Show FB 3 2.0 AND to help launch the addition of Pangolin to the line of products at AixiZ, a Holiday Special deal on QS only if ordered thru me at the best prices going and ~$15 to ship 2/3 days to CONUS from Houston. This will be limited to the QS in stock ( ~ 15 to 25 should be available in about ten days)--I may be able to bring QS to TEXLEM and save cash buyers the shipping. I am fairly certain that a QS will also be given away at SELEM V 2012.

feel free to PM me with any questions.

    hak

EDIT UPDATE-- I just learned that the QS prices I quoted may not be totally correct- PM for details and an expalination--very sorry- I just got carried away I guess..hak

I looked at the venue on Google earth- tried to post it here or at least a link but failed- can somebody more savvy please do that?
It looks like the SA airport is less than 10 miles from the venue. So anyone flying in should just get some cell phone numbers from the planning committee guys (like Greg or me)and we should be easily find you a ride both ways-best that we know inadvance your travel times.. I will have a few extra airbeds , sleeping bags and pillows with me for those flying in who want to 'camp' in the dorms at the venue- there are no beds in those rooms anymore. Greg and I will be at the venue this weekend and will post more info and pics on Sat. PM us w/ questions or wait til the official sign-up thread goes up and post your questions there.

Ugh! My F-550 is now having what it must see as a wonderful vacation at the Ford Dealership. If it is the high pressure pump that will run about $6000-$7000. Expending resources at that level will scratch my participation budget. - In a lot of other things too, like Christmas gifts, discretion money, charity, HVAC repairs at the house, etc.

Yes I could use a credit card but I do not use credit or take loans except where absolutely necessary because I do not believe in paying interest. I'm praying it is a simple thing and I might escape for $1000 or so.. Anyone else wish to join me, I would be grateful. A moment of silence for my truck?

Sorry to put my biz out there but I'd hate for this to spoil my day, month, etc.

    O.K.
Im in. Can my gear get a ride to the venue from say, San Francisco or Sacramento? I would much rather fly down then drive because my car isnt big enough and its probably going to die along the way (yes, I need a new car, but my priorities are so far outta whack I just gotta get this one more little laser component......just one more)..
I would be willing to share a ride and help with the fuel costs and driving responsibilities as well.
I would be bringing a Coherent Purelight Star, 6 + watt whitelight, a couple ILT 5500 argons and my He-Ne/60X "whitelight" table I brought to SoCaLEM last year.
*and* hopefully, I will have my projector, The Borg-cube, from Adam in attendence.
Also, can I grab one of the rooms for sleeping?
    Will there be three phase!!!!

    Nate,

We're at the venue now (Tim, Len & I). As much as I would like to see some big whitelights at the LEM, the facility cannot support this without use of a generator. It appears that this will be a single-phase meet - more info to follow.

We will post all details, photos and registration info after the visit this week. Details for lodging will also be provided. I don't think we will have any issues on the rooms, at least not for those that register early and are open to the concept of "indoor camping". Likely no frills - but it's gonna be a great LEM.

YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE how cool this venue is...
Tons of room- perfect in every way- 9 dorm rooms to 'Camp' in (no beds there anymore.) shower hall with 6 showers- huge kitchen-- bathrooms all over the place- handicap friendly w/ a elevator to the theater.

15 min from the airport so we will come get you. Same for flights out.

When I get home Sat I will put up the pics... About the only issue is the parking lot is small-- I would suggest NOT renting a car.. places to eat real close if you dont want to eat with the rest of us. I can help 5 people that are flying with airbeds and sleeping bags/pillows.

    ... more details ASAP.

The truck is back.. "only" $1500. Broken fuel pickup --> air in lines --> ruined low pressure fuel pump. Also had some preventive items replaced while it was in there. Thanks for the assistance! There will be a less extravagant Christmas, but if anyone complains then I can always question their attitude! 8-P Looking forward to my first LEM!

How to "register" and stake out a room for 2? anyway, any of them on the ground floor for an old cripple?
