Default Custom Projector Case 1.4 Watt RGB Build

    Hello all.

As some of you may know I had mentioned that I was working on a Projector Housing to enclose my RGB project. The CAD work was finished a few weeks ago and my sheet metal fabricator finally finished the first article. I received the metal back from the powder coating shop on Friday and was able to spend a couple of days over the weekend finishing the project. I spent the better part of Saturday in my machine shop milling the 3/8" Aluminum Optical Plate, 1/8" Electronics Plate, and the Output Window Bezel.

Sunday was assembly day and everything fit like a glove. The case is 18 Gauge Sheet Steel with Pem Threaded Inserts pressed in place. Finish is textured Black Powder Coat. Optical Plate is 3/8" 6061 T6 Aluminum, as is the 1/8" Electronics Plate.

It was a bit tight getting everything in the electronics bay only due to the large DHOM power supply for the 532. If I had it to do over again I would definitely use an OEM power supply since the non-oem is so large. It would also have been much better to replace that large connector on the DHOM power supply with something smaller as it takes up a lot of room.

While I was machining the 3/8" plate I went ahead and prepped it for the 445 Dual Blue Module I'm just finishing so it will be easy to drop that module in and replace the DHOM 445 that is currently installed. That thread is located here if you are interested:

In an effort to give back to this community, I am entertaining the idea of offering these housings to people here. It would depend on how many people were seriously interested in purchasing one. I'm waiting for the updated quote sheet for production runs of 10 and 25 units. This would include: Two-piece Steel Enclosure and A-frame Stand (All Powder Coated), 3/8" Aluminum Optical Plate (drilled and tapped only for mounting into cabinet, user to drill all holes for his particular layout), 1/8" Electronics Plate, Output Window Bezel machined to fit 50mm square x 3mm thick optical window, all stainless steel screws and hardware as seem in pictures, Power Receptacle, Power Switch, Fuse Holder and 3 amp fuse, 2ea 60mm fans and fan guard/filter assy.

If you guys are interested please only say so if you are sure you would buy one. I don't plan to make money on this just simply wanted to give back to the community. I would run these through my business along with other components that are in process. All will depend on the cost to provide what I have outlined above, and that cost will be driven obviously by the size of the production run...

Enjoy the pics and please feel free to chime in with comments, questions.

    Best Regards,

    Rob

Interested in one, possibly two if available and price is right. What is the base plate dimensions and height from base to top and bottom? Also perhaps you should move this to group buys? Thanks

Wow, that is a work of art! I'd be interested depending on price as well. Can you give the dimensions of this case? Looks pretty compact, great job fitting all that together.

Keyswitch, remote and ILDA passthru support would be nice. Just a thought...

    Electronics Plate is 8.65" x 11.625"
    Optic Plate is 9.25" x 13.375"
Distance from top of Optic Plate to inside lid = 3"
Distance from top of Electronics plate to Bottom of Optic Plate = 2.75" (Just enough room to mount DT-40 Scan Amps inverted from bottom of Optic Plate)

I second the observation about provision for a key switch and ILDA passthrough. I'd be interested but, like others... it boils down to the all important question of price. The tilting feature and baseplate are a great idea.

Well I thought there would be people out there in the same boat as myself. I designed it to sit on the floor and project on my vaulted ceiling in the living room. Can swing any angle you want, even straight up, or you could mount the stand upside down and use it as a hanging bracket.

    Thumbs up

Nah, looks like shit... Luckily, you live near me which will save you on shipping; I can just swing by to pick it up instead of you mailing it to me like everyone else does when they make something that looks like shit.
