New green module coming soon from Kvant?

I was having a chat with Martin Pelikan at Plasa, and he told me that Kvant have a new design of green module in the pipeline - he wouldn't give much detail, but available power would be up to 1W, and it'll be using a 'new technology' and 'won't be 532nm'. He's expecting the new devices to be available in 6 weeks or so, should be interesting!

A green thin-disk laser @ 524 nm based on doubled diode-pumped Yb:GSO would be more plausible.
I am not sure it modulates much better than conventional doubled Nd:Yag.

If the beam quality is better and if it's cheaper in the long run, it may be the way to go.

Isn't 524nm slightly dimmer to the eye than 532? AFAIK the peak for green vision is at 555nm.

In fact it's more complicated than that.
Under well lit conditions we use photopic vision, which has a peak @555nm.
Under poor lit conditions we use scotopic vision , which has a peak @ 500nm.
In the "inbetween" conditions we use mesopic vision which has a peak that shifts according to the particular lighting conditions.
Mesopic is regarded as the condition in which most lasershows are displayed.
So 524nm could be the perfect candidate for use in mesopic conditions.

RGB Lasersystems, uses them in the 'Compact' line, and they are the *pants*...

I wouldn't hold you breath on new tech.

I've spoken to those nice guys at Kvant recently and was told green diodes are still too expensive. I understand there is a new green in the pipeline but it will be DPSS.

However, as I have no connections to Kvant, maybe that's just the official line. Who knows. I guess we'll have to wait and see!
