Default swami gets a gallery show

first, apologies for being really bad about returning pm's. i've been a little preoccupied.

i'm culturally displaced. i'm uneasy. maybe we all are. i want to make a mark. i wonder sometimes if i have a shadow. i don't know. i'm just trying to find my
space. find my heart. work it all out. i take in a lot and i try to give a little light back. there's a place on the graph where art and science and magic intersect.
i think that's where i want to be. i think there's something for me there, something of me there.

when i'm in the city, i want to be in the desert. when i'm in the desert, i want to be in the ocean. it's like that itch *somewhere* between your shoulder blades. the one you can never quite scratch. i feel like that all the time. my receptor sites ache.

photons play a part of that. in my ancestral language, my name is gomo waseyah. it means "soars in light".

one of the things that gives me pleasure is photography. i wear out cameras. i love the ritual of film. the mystery and the reward. the grounding and the learning; not the looking, but the seeing. there's something about the talisman of a good old camera. the hallpass to magic.

my mother also photographs. at the last heard museum indian market we were approached by the museum of contemporary native arts and asked if we were interested in having a gallery show.

santa fe is the big leagues. there was no decision.

we've been burning countless hours photographing, processing, printing, framing... and we're done. everything was delivered to the gallery and they'll be hung next
    week.

if you're not too far from santa fe, new mexico, i would be honored if you stopped in for a little visit. the show runs from 10/7 to 11/27. i will be at the opening reception (5-7pm on 10/7).

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Good going swami- if your eye is in the mix, I am sure the show will be inspired!

I'm right there, especially this last few weeks for some unknown reason. Maybe something cosmic is going on...
The good news is that things seemed somewhat "righted" today
I sometimes chase this (thing that I don't know what it is) itch until I'm worn out, then while I'm catching my breath, it finds me!

we all have our downs and ups and buzy times and relaxing times.
    Don't mention it, just saying.
We are supposed to have these things, it's a sign your activily living in this world and contributing to whatever that might be.

...I bet you have a 'thing' for handmade paper, too, huh? I sure-do... I still put handwritten-notes into DVD-jackets to Clients... I just crave tactility...

Cool exhibit / great shots... wish I could see it all... I actually just might be passing-thru that way from OK to CA, in the next month... we'll see... Besides, we still have some 'rock-trading' to do, remember?

i had some post college roommates who made their own paper and bound their own books. i love that sort of thing. i think the failing of our culture manifests in our lack of ritual and process.

if you get a chance, swing by. i'll post a couple shots of the show after its hung.

as for rock trading, i stumbled across a valley of sauropod coprolites recently and helped myself to a few hundred pounds.. i think i have some things to trade.

    I agree.

Congratulations on your hanging; wish we were able to be out that way. I'd love to see it, even pics.

Congrats. And, your right. Santa Fe is a mecca for these types of things. Haven't been out there for 36 years but, a friend of mine went about two years ago and had a great time and I enjoyed her pictures.

Swami!! thats really cool!!!! your own "exhibition" in a gallery...
    I also Love photography. (www.hamond.nl)
Painting with light.... seeing.... and framing the image in your mind.... trying to "immortalize" the moment and capturing it.

Its really relaxing and exiting at te same moment.
I'm not really a contemporary art kind of guy like you, but i haven't found myself in photography just yet..
Trying everyting...and seldomly satisfied..... thats almost like that itch you discribe.
    I do love the journy!!

Do you have your work somewhere online?
Ik would really love to see it!!
