    Angry Shattered HeNe

Okay, so I got this laser and power supply for a handsome $50 on fleabay, but the shipper packed it in stupid packing pellets and I found that the tube inside had shattered during shipping. I was really looking forward to opening it up and seeing an awesomely glowing HeNe tube, but it was never meant to be I know it wasn't exactly worth a lot of money to begin with, but do you think it would be worth hunting down a new tube for? Otherwise, I think I'll just RMA the thing in a day or two. Thanks for the input.

Here's a pic from the auction, and here's a link to this laser on Sam's: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserpi...cs.htm#sphh133

Too bad...I agree; send it back for a refund. It you want an old laser for display I can sell you one that works but it will cost more then you probably paid for the one that was smashed. Real bummer, Phil,

Why not remove the tube and install a diode that'll put out a whopping strong red beam? Laser steampunk. Or just keep it as an artifact of the '60s. Or both! Coil the cords neatly, secure them with cable ties, and set the head on top of the supply for a nice bookcase display.

Some interesting ideas there Eidetic, I'm considering the diode steampunkification lol... That one might have to wait for now though, since my resources are currently going towards my upcoming lumia box.

I would rather bury it that install a diode. Trouble is modern tubes will not fit!

They gave me a full refund and decided to let me keep it, so I'll clean it up and put in on a shelf or something until I can make some sort of functional use of it. Thanks guys!
