Heya just a little addup to this:

8.1.1 > Heroic can say and do what she wants as she controls the PLUG

Well I dont want to argue with her at all.. but when someone says negative things and starts to shift my whole topic to something else, I will respond and will feel offended.
And certainly Someone has to change the tone they speak to people, behave preoperly and keep the language decent when your actually talking to somebody about a serious subject.

I really agree with Anthony no offence.
Also my programmer ignored her comments eventually when he read her statements, and I agree with him and are currently doing the same.
Nearly getting Dnar completely of PL is not tolarable by confronting him with something as horrible as cancer so I was glad I could have a chat with my buddy to change his mind.

I've been watching this thread, trying to bite my tongue but feel I must also have my say.

I've always been a bit stunned at some of your comments Jas, actually amused at first (sometimes I even giggle) and then the realization of what was actually said hits me then I'm stunned.

I've never understood why someone who is obviously *so* talented and very, very, very Intelligent needs to behave in such a way, this is the part that really confuses.

A while back, I actually saw your resume and I was blown away ! I respect your opinions on technical matters greatly.

I'm also aware who you're current employer is - we work in a very similar job role (Only I contract for a competitor.. well, kinda a competitor.. sorta.) I know your employer only pick the best people when recruiting for technical teams (Hence why I work for a competitor! )

But I suppose what bothers me is the attitude, it reminds me of when I was a young sysadmin and I used to ridicule people for not knowing "how to do stuff" or for saying something stupid - I grew out of that... And now days if someone is wrong I don't feel the need to throw it in their face or rub it in because I know I'm right and if they don't like it then they are the ones missing out.

A while back there was a thread, that I happened to post in reply to and this started another PL drama.. I accused you of being a bloke; sorry about that - it was a assumption made on the basis of the arrogance I witnessed.

Boy, the egg was on my face when I found out you were not a "little boy" (the term I collectively used to describe) but I was as amused as I was embarrassed; that I'd just given a woman a lecture about womans rights.. oh the irony.

At the end of the day, opinions are opinions and you're entitled to them, this is a forum and this is another Drama.. (we all love a good drama, it's the Internet/forum/BBS way) I just think there is no need for the behavior that people take exception to, a little bit of diplomacy goes a hell of a long way.

IF you've been abused in PM's (even though that may have been a direct result of your behavior) thats unacceptable!!; likewise if someone comes to your door and threatens you - but it does appear to me that you bring it on yourself.

I don't want to make any enemies here, I love PL and it's become a part of my life (really!!) I've met some awesome people at LEM's and learnt a hell of a lot - I'd love to see peace and harmony rule on here! It would be cool if we could all get along.

Maybe a "special" category for the intense and potentially abusive threads needs to be created that only the "janitor" can move them into.
I find reading them to be informative and educational.
Sometimes I see things that I might be guilty of thinking and realize that those things are not acceptable. So they help me self regulate and assess my own being.
Sometimes I see things that I witness 2 year olds doing. (In a slightly more adult way.) I recognize these actions for the "positioning" or "dominance" activities that happen in all species. They can be amusing and then forgotten.
Sometimes I see truly disturbing behaviour. This merits more consideration. If the event is a sudden departure from the norm for the person it indicates a potential "sore spot" or a personal barrier that may have been interpreted as crossed. An emotional outbreak that should be noted and possibly respected in the future. Given time the situation may cool down.
OR the poster may have recently experienced a sudden and/or shocking event in their life that they have been unable to come to terms with and some comments may have pushed them over the edge so the resulting emotions come out as nasty/abusive exchanges directed almost randomly at others. This is much harder to see but is very important to consider. Calm support and even some support by relating similar experiences can help. Best to go private with those.
If the written diatribe is consistent with the character of the offender but just a bit more extreme than usual then the moderator could give a warning and probably a "time-out". If the offender shows no change then they get shut down. Plain and simple and the way it is usually done. Otherwise their bahaviour can be used as example of what-not-to-do.
They still can make for good reading. I've learned a couple of insults that I have been able to use with my older sibling when he gets out of line.(He's usually drinking too.)
Educational and informative all over the place, if you look for it.
All are good indications of the person who writes them. They help to create the pictures of the individuals who are members here. I find that no one is better or worse than another in most instances. Just different.
And that is what keeps it interesting.

There is an old native Indian saying that I heard many years ago. It made enough of an impression that not only did I remember it, but I apply it daily. It translates to "Treat everyone as if they are your friend until they prove themselves to be otherwise."
How you treat your friends is, of course, a clear indicator of how you should be treated.

Now I hope I got all that preachy stuff out of my system for a few days. I'm looking for a good arguement now. Was that the 2nd door on left ? (Don't want those "hitting on the head" lessons !)
