Hi,
now that I have my box complete I am ready to make it legal. I was wondering if you guys could help me accomplish this.
I know the part about actually filing the paperwork, but before I do that I understand that you need the following:
Proper labels (should be easy to get right?)
an indicator light (like an LED?)
a shutter (a mechanical one?)
a key swtich
Any help with these things (and anything else I am leaving out) would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,

THANKS!!! This is a big help dave.
Where can I get the shutters from?

Hehe,
Dont take what i say as gospel, as i dont live in the USA, therefore dont have to worry about variancing any of my lasers(even tho i make my lasers safe as possible, make use of cable interlocks, shutters, etc)
There are a few options for a shutter. They must be spring loaded tho, so when power is removed from them they will close, and shut off the laser beam
One option is a GM-20 style actuator. I think these are better for beam table work tho.
another option you will find here: http://www.nmlaser.com/safety.htm

do I need a shutter on my DPSS laser projector ?
Why do I need a shutter, becouse when I turn OFF the power with my remote switch.. the power is out and the laser goes OFF !! no matter if there is a shutter there or not...

Shouldn't the shutter be set up so that if the beam stalls (maybe because of a fault on the driver card for the galvos) the shutter blanks the beam?
Jim
But if the galvo\amp fails, why not turn off the power then.. and the lasers turn OFF !!
But.. my guess was that the sutter was more ment to be on the HUGE gas\HeNe lasers that stay on if you disable the galvos... ?
I think the idea is that it needs to be automatic and instant.
The laserist may not be near the laser/controller when a fault developes, If this happens in the UK and Europe where audience scanning does occur there could be a serious accident.
I've just bought a CIR Super-1 and if you have ILDA selected but not connected to the port it still emits the full power beam without any movement, I must do something about it before I use it on my mobile disco.

I had a couple questions regarding the filing out of the Variance form:
1. What do you put down for Docket number?
2. If its my own private laser, what do I put down as the name of the company?
3. Is the address of the company my address, or the place where I plan to be using the laser (ie. club address)
4. What is my title?
thanks,
