I agree 100%. However, I would have less issues with alternate formats/standars as long as they are documented, open, and shared. The last thing this industry needs is more fractionation.
If you have a better standard, improve the industry by sharing it. Everybody wins.

I think the reason why several companies have broken away with their own file formats (it's not only Pangolin), is because of the difficulty in changing the ILDA standard to what they would require and the length of time it might take.
However, don't take that as gospel, that's only my recollection of the situation and I could be wrong.
