Right away?

You never look down the barrel.

If you get a misfire you wait 30 secs and if it doesn't go off then eject the cartridge from the gun and leave it for some considerable time. I've had misfires when using shotguns and I certainly wouldn't be looking down the barrel to try to spot the shot!
