Default Vari-lite style 1.8w RGB shows on e-bay

    Hi guys
I was wondering if any of you have had experience using the vari-lite style laser show pictured below. I am looking at them for a solution to some show situations. Thought I would see what the community thinks and if you guys think this will pass muster with ILDA. The idea of being able to re-aim the show after it is hung is a real nice idea.
Here is the E-Bay auction link below

You're going to have a nightmare with laser safety if its mounted in a moving head because safety items such as Beam Attenuation Maps are placed according to the static position of the laser. If the laser moves then the positioning is compromised. The only way I think you can use a moving head laser safely is if the beam is proven to be within MPE to the closest part of the audience without any BAM's etc and if its legal in your country to audience scan.

    Thumbs down AVOID!

    Hi fotobysw...

Just thought I'd pipe in with a warning here...

I 'accidently' bought one of these on eBay here in the UK. For less than £300.

It's still not worth the money!

The modules are well under powered
The optics are the worst kind of Chinese S**t.
The alignment between the modules was bad... +/- 5 degrees between each colour. The red didn't even manage to exit the casing it was so badly aligned.
The Dichros and mirrors are glued in with loads of hot melt gunk.

Oh, and it lased at switch on while it homed so put hot beams all over the place while it found it's starting pan and tilt positions...

If it was £300, I'd say it was worth buying to strip the TTL modules from to play with if you wanted to build a cheap TTL beam projector (which is what I'm slowly doing with mine) but other than that, avoid it!

You can see photos and my general opinion of the unit in this thread ---> http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...accidently#top

Hope that helps and Merry Christmas!
If in doubt... Give it a clout?
