    Default A little miffed at o-like ..

    For you DIY-zrz..
I ordered (2) 532 grn modules for a compact RGB build that I'm doing, and they came in under-spec and one mode-hopping/ malfunctioning. I just ordered a 200mw from them and will be doing a full review when it comes in .. plz stay tuned .. I told them that I will be doing a review here. We'll see if their quality is going downhill or not..
This is the project. It is the grn and blu portion. The red 635 will be added lastly ..

I take it they’re the 12mm modules. I also have several of these types here that I’ve been testing for a micro RGB. Even though they all came from different suppliers, all are under spec and the only consistency is they are all inconsistent and very temperature sensitive. I can measure these on 2 different days and come up with values that are up to 50% different from the last time I measured. 3 out of 4 mode hop and only one has run reasonably stable and may even be suitable for modulation. I think if you find anything usable of these 12mm pointer cores you will be lucky if they do a stable 50-70mW IR filtered and also modulate halfway decent. None of the ones I’ve tested were from O-Like though.

Yup, they're the 12 mm ones. Seems I am experiencing the same problems you had with with these, SF. Oh well, I suppose that a compact green is too good to be true. I wonder if it's just lousy xtal alignment(s) or 808 pump diode problems..? I might just have to disassemble one of these to see if it can be repaired. (Using appropriate IR precautions, of course ;]

..double post ..oops. Well I'll edit and use this one anyway.

I attached a little "note" to my order:
    Hello,

I am going to post a review of this module on Photonlexicon.com. The last 2 modules that I have bought from you have been under-specification and/ or defective. I need refunds. Please provide a good solid 200 mw module, The review will reflect accordingly. Thank you very much, "steve-o" on Photonlexicon.com
I hope it doesn't sound threatening. I'd just like one decent small green module.

On a brighter note: I found no apparent defect or bad quality on their blue modules.

Sure, they're nothing more than a A140 diode with a standard lens stuck in front, so there's little that can go wrong with them anyway. The module may be a bit under specified power (300mW), but that could also be because the driver is set on a 'conservative' current level, easy to adjust afterwards.

Given the price of these modules (for the blue at least) is cheaper than buying a spare TTL driver, A140 diode, mount and heatsink, I doubt you could go wrong with 'em.

Yeah, the green 532s are equally inexpensive and tempting. Also the size is good too if you dont want 3 huge "boxes" to find space for. I'm just thinking the mounting of the crystals is probably critical and if they're just thrown in there and glued with out careful practices a lot of weirdnesses can happen. Also wondering if a partially fractured crystal could possibly function when heated (by the 808 pump diode) but not work well when cool.
