Question Looking for Mr. Goodba...err, DC/DC Converter...

    Hey Kats -

Looking for anyone that might have experience with a good equivalent to these kickin little Ericsson DC/DC converters:

http://www.pikpower.com/New%20Site/N...n_DCDC/pg7.pdf (...sorry, PDF link is all I could really find, infowise...) Specifically, looking for the 2212P, which is +19-35V DC In, 5V DC Out, @ 25W...

..Yes, I know how to use Google, etc, what i am looking for is anyone that has experience with / knows-of a good replacement / other brand to-recommend, with similar characteristics - thermal and physical 'toughness', and must be at least 24V DC IN, and 5V DC, OUT, only... not really interested in multi-outputs... just +5, low current <1A is fine...

    Danke!

    Hi Jon,

I don't have any experience with these brick style modules but after researching the virtues of this style of power supply for my rgb6 module I decided to buy the custom Vicor module from rgblasers.

Have a look at Vicor's site below.

I couldn't figure out if you can buy just the modules.
    http://www.vicorpower.com/cms/home/products/brick

On a side note. You can calculate he cost of a custom multi output unit on there.

There is no doubt they are expensive but considering their excellent reputation and unbelievably small size plus there configuration allows for totally sealed projector, maybe people might be interested in getting a couple of models made to suite different size projectors and we can group buy a bunch in the future.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, m8... Yeah, I agree - the Vicors are solid little puppies, and have used them before.. it's just more a 'value' thing, since a $97. part going into a $350. controller is, well, a bit 'tight' (..since, that ain't all the hard-costs, let-alone ~ 20-30 hrs of labor, etc..) ...the 'EriPowers' were about $25.-30. which is a bit more equitable... Still, the Vicors are pretty bulletproof... we've used em in our 'install' systems... I like...

    Thanks for the lead...
    cheers...

    Sorry couldn't be more help.

I'm interested in what other stuff is out there like this too.

I found it a bit hard trying to find those type of bricks.

I want to be a bit more value conscious next time when I build my satalites.

    Good luck mate.

    Howdy there Sir. Mister Doode

What about a little DIY? Perhaps waz up an L7805C
5V fixed DC regulator, will jiggle 1A. 35V max Vin.
Would be ideal if you only need that at low currents; will need ta be on a heatsink dough!
    "Datashiiiiiiit": http://www.rapidonline.com/pdf/47-3290e.pdf

    Cost? Around £0.25 (40 cents?)

    Just another option

    Cheers and beers,

I agree... I would use a Positive Voltage Regulator like the LM7805...
    It is simple and inexpensive...

With higher input voltages an input resistor to share the current
is a good idea as shown in the App notes #28.
Or you could add the additional parts as shown in App notes #24-
#25 and #27 for High Voltage Inputs....

I have used the lambda 24 in 5 out at 1.2A with really good luck. I have two used ones sitting here. If your project can use a used item I would let them go.

    Hey Guys -

@ Kit, Thanks, m8.. no worries...

@ Briggs & Jerry... Thanks, as-well... been that route, and just want a 'all-done' / potted-solution.. already have enough 'hand labour' on these systems...

@ Log2 - Thanks! nice find... and, wow - "Made in Vietnam" - 'exotic', too! jk...I'm prolly gonna give some Vicors I found, a shot, and likely jump on a couple of these, as-well... if it's the same Lambda I'm thinking of, they made good supplies... I'd just - ideally - like to find a 'reasonably-priced' / non-surplus, replacement for those 'EriPowers'... they were really nice / perfect for our app...

    Thanks, Gents...
