    Default Flight Sim?

    Hey-

anyone have any good recommendations for a good, realistic combat flight simulator for PC's? All i seem to find any useful info for is Microsoft flight sim X which seems ok. But im looking for more of the flight sims for combat fighters.

Regular flight simulators are ok. But definitely prefer combat fighting.

    Any ideas?

This is something I've been interested in for a while. It sure would be nice to at least be able to make an educated guess as to how to land the plane, if needed.

    There's this: http://www.x-plane.com/desktop/meet_x-plane/

X-Plane for a realistic flight model for everything except rotorcraft. I was involved for a short while in creating 180' wrap around displays for a commercial sim, and X-Plane came the closest to a real aircraft in the under 1000$ category. We used it for development work

Downside, you need a maxed out proccessor and maxed out memory for it to run smoothly. Think dual core or quad-core.

Downside Two, unless they have changed it in the past 2 years, combat is not a function unless you find a Plugin.

Upside, when I flew my friend's Tomahawk and a Sierra as part of the development process, X-Plane was far more of a accurate learning aid then Microsoft.

Get a GOOD 10- 12 bit (not the standard 8 bit ) USB Joystick. It really helps to feed the sim good control position data.

Never used it but Microsoft do a Combat Flight sim as well:

Just added this because on Amazon.co.uk Microsoft CF3 gets bad reviews.

There's also Tom Clancy's Hawx 2. Review here:

Combat FS is horrid. "Stutters" in flight even on a hot machine.

But you can fly Snoopy on his dog house in CFS which makes it all worthwhile

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

FSX, not combat but it's available as a plugin, shows the graphics well though.

Shoot forward a couple of minutes.

Microsoft CFS III definitely had issues, but CFS I and II (have 'em all) are still pretty nice combat sims, especially if you're looking for WWII-era fighters.

The IL-2 Sturmovik WWII series is pretty cool on the PS-3, but never tried the PC version.

MS Flight Simulator X ** (have it), and from what I've heard, the X-Plane series are good if you want to practice some real-world instrument work, approaches, etc., or just want to do some simulated airborne sight-seeing...

    PS -
