does anyone think this will fit if it is the diode problem??
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:RTQ:GB:1123
    his mail back to me
Hi, to be honest this wont be much brighter than the one youve got, best go for a 500mw laser to see a real difference.I'm selling what you see in the pic,the diode head and psu and a transformer. It might fit your laser, cant say unless I saw it,and it gets fiddly putting in new mountings. But if it looks similar then it will fit, remember the transformer has to go in too, cheers

TBH it looks like you paid well on the high side with the RRP even if it does work out to £800 each!

I found someone selling these second hand for £300 with an advert that had some better pictures:

    http://www.musicalads.co.uk/musical-...-10678464.html

The pictures on that site of the scan appear to show a very low kps from the scanners - if you look at the circle it has definite edges ie it's not perfectly round.

For the purposes of getting your unit back up and working, a cheap green laser module might be the way forward if you can't re-align yours.

However, I would recommend that when it comes time to replace them, you contact someone on here about either them making you one, or you making one yourself because you can build a far better unit than that for only a little more money in my opinion. On a self build probably less than a £1,000 per laser using very good components which isn't much more than the £800 each that you paid.

You might also want to look into ILDA control if you decide to build in the future as the world is limitless compared to 10 pre-set DMX controlled patterns. I guarantee a single quality laser under ILDA control from software such as Pangolin Quickshow, will blow your audience away far quicker than the current 2 lasers on an 8 cue cycle with a low scan rate.

To give you an idea of what can be done, download and register this demo programme and have a play:

    http://www.pangolin.com/_Files/Setup_QS2_Ev.exe

This software does cost approx £500 but coupled with an ILDA connected laser, you really get an idea of what is achievable.

Or to put it another way, you could have self built a single quality green and bought the laser software / DAC for around about what you paid for the 2 current lasers.

Only you can find out if the laser fits.

You need to measure the head size of your current unit, you need to identify and measure the size of the driver of your current unit. You then need to obtain the head and driver size of the proposed replacement and check that it and the driver and any brackets on the driver and any cabling will allow it to fit.

You also need to check the centre points of each laser and check you can mount the new laser so that it centres on the scanners.

If i missed anything out, I'm sure someone else will chip in - I don't build so I'm somewhat naive when it comes to building.

    your information is priceless thanks,
i never thought of all that, there is about
half an inch under the plate it is mounted on
so i think there should be enough to play with.
    once again many thanks.

Its not just up and down but lateral movement you need to allow for.

eg. If the new laser is 1/2 inch wider at each side in total width including the base, then to align it in the same position you need that extra 1/2 inch of width between it and the other components that you won't be removing on one side and that extra 1/2 inch of case clearance on the other to centre it laterally in the same position.

Plus as you've already identified, you need sufficient head room.

The same can be said of the driver amp.
