We had one of his more massive pre PC devices at my first laser job. If you get to know his kit, you can do some wicked things with it. The one I used was old, you needed to store images on Eproms.
You do not want to know what his US distributer charged the company to place one image on a encrypted eprom. How does 400$ per frame sound? You sent them 8x11 inch artwork, they digitized it and sent you a EPROM. (Pre ILDA file days) It calculated where the beams were going down range, and showed you a view looking down on (NOT INTO) the beams on a oscope or XY display.
Massive array of buttons, and more then one effect per button. Sophisticated stuff for 1989. However, lots of phone calls to England to keep it running.

No I cannae remember the arsed 15 pin pinout, but at the time I remember x,y, TTL dichroic style colorbox, and shutter.

That's brilliant Mark thanks for that, saves my blind probing with a scope!

Please thank your friend profusely and tell him his kit's cool, and the lasers were the best part of Eclipse!

    Here you go Rob:

    Pin
    1 X
    2 Y
3 Blanking (opposite to ILDA i.e. 5V to Blank, 0 to unblank)
    4 Fader 0-5V
    5 R
    6 G
    7 B
    15 GND

    Hope that helps

    Default It works!

Ok, this isn't a great example! I can't get the blanking to work when I generate my own cues as shown here, but it works fine when I run the existing show cues, so I suspect that's just a setting, or to do with how intensity and colour controls are used (this projector, single green analogue, only has green signal connected). Though it's fair to say there is little comparison between this little single DPSS projector, and the show it used to run, some details of which I've found courtesy of The Wayback Machine:-

http://web.archive.org/web/200202081...co.uk/main.htm (go to the bottom and click "Eclipse", I haven't worked out how to directly link to the archive)

Thanks again for your help Mark, I'll try and bring it to the LEM! It's full of classic beam effects!

    Edit:- http://web.archive.org/web/200502281...ts/eclipse.htm Direct link.

Glad to see you have it working now, you'll have some fun with that...

If you have any more questions about it, let me know... I can indirectly pass them on to Dave Hickford who designed the thing, may take a day or two to get an answer but saves a bit of messing around on your part...

Look forward to seeing it at the LEM, though sadly I can only attend on the Friday as I have a show to do on the Saturday...

    Cheers

That's cool, love old literature like that! and mine's exactly the same as the "Mirage" one in the picture. The software seems to be called "Voyager" though when you run it something called "Mirage" runs as well in the task manager, so I'm not quite sure what the different systems were. Two of the Coemar Nat Scans were up for auction at the same time, but I couldn't think of anything useful to do with them in this solid state era!

I suspect this was all quite expensive in it's day!
