    Default RGB projector

(I am no longer looking for RGB) I'm looking for a (approximately) 500mW green or blue projector that is more or less variance ready. i know there are plenty of Chinese rigs going for cheap but my intention is to get one varianced in the US to start doing shows. I still don't have the amount I would like to spend on a decent projector but I'm hoping someone has a used one they'd be willing to let go for a modest price. I don't have any real requirements on quality since I'm not looking to spend a whole lot but like I said, I need to be able to get it varianced in the US fairly easily without too much modification or expense. It can be a manufactured unit or a homebuilt one as long as it has the necessary safety features (or at least most of them) for a variance. If anyone has something for under $2k let me know. Thanks in advance.

    Zero-

you need to get yourself into a realistic budget. ESPECIALLY if you are looking for one that is variance ready. Sorry, but $2000 for a variance ready pro Laser system is not gonna happen. At least it better not happen. ANYONE in the U.S. that would sell a varianced system for $2k needs to seriously reconsider their profession.

My apologies if i may be coming off as harsh or rude. thats not my intent. Just trying to be realistic. Most U.S. companies pad in about $2000 on their systems just for the CDRH paperwork. Let alone the labor, components, time, liability, profit and business associated expenses.

$1000-$2000 to get a watt in a varianced projector, as Marc says will probably be impossible. 1 watt green modules alone tend to cost $1,000 for just the laser...forget, case, galvos, power supplies etc. I would suggest taking a look at X-Lasers stuff. It's all legal in the US, is in a price range you can afford and, don't get too caught up in raw projector power. There are things they do to maximize the laser and make it appear just as bright if not brighter than projectors with more power. There are some video examples on YouTube and their website demonstrating exactly that. As a good US legal starter projector, it's you're best bet.

No worries, I just spoke with someone that brought me back down to earth, lol. I had been hoping that used projectors would be obtainable at the price i was looking to spend but I had no idea that the cases alone for a variance ready projector was $2k itself. I am narrowing my search to a 500mW+ green projector. Hopefully that is a bit more reasonable. In used condition hopefully there is one that's variance ready for under $2k. Sorry to sound so naive in my original post. Those damned Chinese companies had my head in the clouds for selling 2W projectors for $1k.

Zeropoint I feel what you are talking about. I'm buying a used X-Laser as we speak and I've used 2 of their products in the past. Plus their team has been wonderful over email getting me started with the variance stuff. I think you wil like X-Laser.

Here is a link to X250G's that I used on a concert once a long time ago.

where did you find a used x-laser? im trying to find a used 500mW-1W green x-beam. I'm going to call a dealer in Reno, NV tomorrow to see if he can help at all. I've searched all over the internet for used projectors but haven't found anything.

Zero....I'm a laser novice but I'm a pro at saved searches in specific categories on Ebay....X-laser in an "auction" format almost never happens. They are popular as hell! So popular in fact the used one I bought for 60% of retail. They hold their value really well....

UM...my buddy has 2 X250 Greens I believe....50mw a piece and super bright. Lowish hours too....I think he may be getting into the skywriter stuff. Let me know...I'll email him if you are interested...

Here is a video of them in action at a school music concert I conducted!

yeah, thats what ive been looking for. id be sold instantly if i could find a 500mw x-beam at 60% retail. but you're right, x-lasers in auction format almost never happen. i would have said they NEVER happen except that you have shown that it is possible. i am certainly impressed with those two x250's in the video though. they look quite good for only being 50mw a piece and (from what i can tell) no fog in the air. i think im going to hold out a little longer though. i have to take an LSO training course before i can do any shows here in arizona and the only one ILDA is offering isnt until november. id rather not pay twice as much to take the course by one of the other companies and have to sit through all the military and medical related stuff. if i wait until november it will give me time to save up some more money and hopefully get something a little more powerful. but if you happen to come across any good deals on ebay in the 300-500mw range for x-laser stuff you should drop a link here and thanks for sharing that video! man i wish my school did stuff like that when i was a kid :P
