Rob (Yag) If you can bring your 13A 3pin domestic to 32A 3pin Ceeform adapters, we will be cooking on electric......... or should that be Gas?

    We need 4 of them!

Scary thing is, we do actually have those for testing purposes!

Unfortunately they still have their 13A fuses in them, so we'll need some of the following specialist fuses to get lasing! :-

It's very heartening to see the positive responses so far and, I think we're on to something special that really CAN be accomplished. As I said in the original post, this would probably need to be 2013 or perhaps even 2014 as we know laserists have no money and would need time to save. While there are distinct advantages to scheduling a special one that's outside the traditional February/August timeframe of UKLEM, I also don't want to see the Europeans get out of their regular sync. Although, I'm sure they wouldn't object to three in one year if one actually WAS a global sort of event. No question about the need to get under the hood and tinker as opposed to the ShowLEM idea. Sorry Jem!
If we proposed a new "one off" LEM for a sort of global get together and CaribLEM doesn't happen then, I would think mid 2013 as a target. Otherwise, the February/March 2014 regularly scheduled Surfleet UKLEM would be my target. I don't think August works well for us because of SELEM.

Although....!!! here is the craziest of thoughts. Perhaps August 2013 becomes the mother of all SELEM's and we extend the invitation for UK (and others) to visit ours and then, in February 2014, we return the favor and go there. A "tour" could also be developed just as easily for the UK people coming here. For example, fly into NY with an opportunity to spend a day or two there. Then, perhaps a day in Philadelphia, then a stop in Washington DC, finally ending up in "nowhere", North Carolina. (Admit it....it IS in the middle of nowhere.) Then, the out of towners depart from Charlotte. Yes, a year and a half to two years is an awful long time but, in order for people to start saving and, in order to establish the most complete and comprehensive trip details and itinerary, some time would be necessary. The other thing as we all know is that, the older we get, the faster time goes by and two years will probably be here before we know it.

As masterpj made the trek to SELEM last year, I'm sure he could provide some insight as to the ease or difficulty of travel.

    Brad

Maybe the starting point for considering dates would be to work out what time of year you can obtain cheapest flights to UK , Im pretty sure UKLEM can be adjusted or additional lem added to match in with that cheapest month to help make it happen

Thanks Paul. Interesting thought. In my mind, I've been kind of targeting the February/March UKLEM in 2014. My goal is to have the bulk of a plan formulated with an itinerary, details, solid pricing and everything ready to advertise by the time this years SELEM rolls around. That way people have a year and a half to save, clear calendars, obtain passports etc. I'm preparing a list of questions for some of the people who have offered to assist on your side of the pond that will be going out in PM's soon. I want to inquire about some logistics, transport, lodging, other "must see, must do" ideas. Things like that.

I'm anxious to see this ultimately happen. I think it would be an incredible experience!

Following the weather issues, I have this feeling that future LEM's will generally be held in April and probably October. Unfortunately February is just too unreliable with the weather and a few folks who would have attended the recent LEM couldn't due to adverse weather. If you guys were making an effort to come over we would want to ensure as far as possible that the weather was reasonable, and there's much more chance of good weather in April rather than February.

also on the personal 'bucket list' - see *some* band, perform, live @ Leeds...
Jon, Is this 'the' Leeds we're talking about? If so, there's doesn't seem to be too much going on with major 'named' live bands at the moment. Leeds is still lacking a sheltered stadium venue. There's a great scene regarding breaking/lesser known bands though in some of the smaller venues. I live just south of Leeds and would gladly act as 'tour escort' for any of you folks who fancied a whistle stop 'American style' tour of the highlights of Yorkshire. Assuming you've got a day or two to spare of course. There's a lot of history in Yorkshire

    Cheers

    Jem

Might be too far North, Leeds is already some distance from Surfleet, but Sunderland FC seem to be holding some big concerts at the moment. eg Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc.

Don't know what will be on in the year the US guys would like to come over, but it could be worth keeping an eye on.

Other alternative would be something like Leeds Festival but that's in August so peak Holiday time = expensive flights and jammed roads!

Might also be worth keeping an eye on the Birmingham area as again often some concerts etc at NEC and nearer to Surfleet.

Leeds is only about 2½ hours from Surfleet, that's nothing to our American friends, they'll travel that distance for a good breakfast . Last time I looked at a map Sunderland was near Newcastle, unless they've moved it when I wasn't looking .
