    Default A little clairification

Steve...The adhesive I have seen used is JBweld. I am sure any epoxy would do....I imagine that clear epoxy might look alittle better...so would optical glue...but I have never used that. A very, very small amount of epoxy is used. The lens is placed in the brass recess pocket...and then a very small drop of epoxy is placed on the end of a tooth pick or scribe tool...and applied to the portion of the lens which is standing above the pocket platform...forming a cove geometry !! SMALL stuff...use a lighted magnifing glass on a swing arm !! ( And....do NOT drink alot of coffee B4 the procedure...haha )

Mike...See the attached pic....it is what I plan to do...and what Kiyoukan has done using this basic design.

The optical path as drawn... is one way to set things up. As far as I can see this design will have a minimal footprint. I suppose you could do a smaller set up ...with less magnification cylinderical lenses...but then I do not think that selection will deliver the best beam geometry ...that is available with the 6X lenses.

This design is for a quad unit. You could go with 1/2 the design...and construct a dual. The real slick thing here is....VERTICAL STACKING ...That is something that I did not come up with !!....It was p1t8ull which first proposed this in post #749 in the "Grail" thread....THAT idea...plus the 2mm fL coli lenses and the 6X C-Lenses are the combination that will...STAND AND DELIVER...the goods !! IMHO !! I am waiting on the 2mm units....and the 6X lenses from this GB....BUT....from what I have seen with Kiyoukan's set up....we are on the right track. Thanx to ALL who have evolved this project !! BEAM

    Note...Cost...40 $ USD for each C-Lens set + 37 $ USD for each 2mm collimation lens set-up x 2 = 114 $ USD...per dual set up

A picture is work a million words, thanks so much CD. What do you typically use to mount the lenses aka the brass recess pocket? Is seems like the distance between the two lenses needs to be precise. Is there a standard lens mount that people use or do people generally fabricate this by hand?

    Thanks,
    Mike

No Problem BF....The 2mmfL lenses come with a brass M9 x .5 threaded mount. It is supplied this way from Dave at Laser Show Parts....I think the lenses will be supplied this way with the GB... See the attached pic of the mount from Kiyoukan. The lens distance and position relative to the diode is...sensative....see the last few posts on the " Grail " thread ( Shamless plug). BEAM

Ok I'm in for a quad setup:

    2 sets of cylindrical lenses
    4 of Daves diode lenses

Thanks for figuring out this setup and organizing the group buy!

Default Another Techno wonder from Terrawatt Labs- Acrylic mount for 6X Lenses

Well....I did a drawing of one way to mount the 6X Cylinderical lenses. The 10 mm wide channel slot provides for adjustment of the first lens. As with the acrylic holder for the Lava lenses....this unit delivers "X" movement for the first lens( 10mm fL )...and " Y" movement for second lens( 60mm fL).

The top plate will be placed atop the lenses once the correct position is acheived. Then, the four(4) bolts will be tightened to supply clamping pressure to hold the lenses in position. Finally there are four (4) thru bore holes which will serve to secure the unit to the main optical table. For now...this is likely how I will mount the lenses. Beam

Lol.. luv the 1st pic. Looks like an inter-city freeway exchange schematic of LA or something .. And, I second the motion to call the GB cyl lenses the "Kiyoukan-Lenses" just like we call the coll-optics "Dave's lenses", because I believe Kiyoukan came up with them/ found them. Can we call the new cyl-lenses the "K-Lenses" for short? Ok with you Kiyoukan?

Pretty neat! How do you fabricate things like this out of acrylic? I've never worked with it before. Do you use a home router or lathe? Maybe that new moldable plastic would work.

    Thanks,

Put me down for one of each set. ie what ever it takes to combine two diodes and correct them.

BF....Nah...No moudable plastic....I have a Mirco-Mart 84630 small end mill. I really enjoy machine work !!! And with a basic CAD programe... you can lay things out....and change many, many times before you excute the design. It is very good to combine the two hobbies ( Machine work and Lasers)...to make a design that fulfills all the needs of the project....and then make it a reality....for much less the cost than if it was purchased. Of course....some things ...like a Dichroic 3-Axis mount....well.....I could do it.....but.....somethings make sense to just buy !!!
Acrylic is easy to work with.....and in this instance...a logical choice since it is somewhat helpful to see the beam path....within the C-Lens holder...so as to verify that the entire unit is aligned to the centre of the LD output. My next machine purchase will be a small lathe !!! BEAM

I don't mean to appear impatient or ungrateful, but how long is this GB going to take? (I might just go ahead and buy lenses from Dave if he still has some and use the Lavalenses that I already have) .. Has interest died down ? .. or is more research being done .. ?
