Got it! Sadly, no, it does not play properly. zILDA reports it as format "0 1 2". The ones my project plays zILDA reports only as format "0". Thanks for trying, though!!
If I can't use LSX to drive the Spencer projector I will probably have to wait until I have a real projector before buying it. Does ILDA SOS have an ILDA format 0-only option?
Thanks again,

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
I'm absolutely not suggesting there is a fault on the part of LSX/ILDSOS here. The projector is what it is, and I can't change its firmware. I can create ILDA format 0 frames with LaserBoy, but the art creation process in LaserBoy is labor-intensive. I would much rather create art in LSX and export it for the projector. It appears that the projector is incapable of skipping unknown ILDA format sections, which is a failing on its part, but not something I can fix. Experiemnts to date have shown that the .ild files fed to this unit must contain ONLY a format 0 header and data.
I've been told the format 0-only files are old and have been superceded by new standards; I understand that. I'm just asking if LSX / ILD SOS can create these old format-0-only files without any of the new format stuff in them. It's a simple question whose answer drives my purchase timing. I don't fault LSX/ILDSOS for not supporting such a use case, if it actually turns out they do not, I am just trying to determine the facts of the matter. If it can't be made to work I'll just wait until I have a proper projector and buy LSX then. :-) But, that could be a while. :-(
BorgqueenX was kind enough to send me a sample file representing what ILD SOS produces as "format 0," which contains format 1 and 2 information in it as well. So, the only sample I have so far doesn't work for this unit. Maybe there is a way to do it, but I don't have LSX/ILDSOS to experiment with, so I am reliant on the goodwill of others to experiment and send me test files. :-) Or, if drlava is kind enough to send me some sort of evaluation copy that will let me test this facility, that would work as well.
I suspect being able to select the old ILDA 63-color default palette as the target when creating the art (or being able to re-map to that palette is key to any success that might be had here. I can strip out the palette information from BorgQueenX's file with LaserBoy and a text editor and play the result, but the ability to select colors in LSX, even if it's only one of the 7 colors this projectors has available, and have those stick through the export process, is kind of key to its utility for this projector for me.
Anyhow, thanks for any additional thoughts or input anyone has! (yes, the suggestion "get better hardware" is already on the wish list. :-))
Cheers,
tribble
sorry if that sounded snotty. it wasn't my intent.
if you're going to buy LSX (which i use and think highly of)...
consider buying a DAC that supports show playback from flash card (like the riya or etherdream) and use your projector as ILDA only. if your projector does not have ilda input, it would not be terribly difficult to convert it.

ILD-SOS is built on top of the core code of LaserBoy. Its ILDA and DXF import / export and conversion capabilities come from LaserBoy.
You don't need to go through any text export / import to fix colors or palettes. LaserBoy lets you pick your target palette and do a best match to it right in the visual vector editor. Look in menu p from main, (option b or B). Arrow up and down to pick the target palette.
BTW, there is an arbitrary limit to the total number of frames that can be stored in an ILDA file. This is because each frame is supposed to be numbered consecutively from zero and the file format uses an unsigned 16-bit integer to store the frame number. So that means that the last legitimate frame number would be 65535. I say this is arbitrary because any ILDA file reader / writer can easily ignore it.

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.
the one problem with ILD generated in LSX i see is they play faster than they should. e.g. a 1:30 minute show produces a 17 seconds ilda file (if i choose target 30 FPS)
How can you chose fps target when recording ilda?
