I watched that video and puked and laughed at the same time. As I was purging in the toilet the following quotes came to my mind.

"It's all about status elevation in the da clubz!!!!!!!"
    "Make dat Chedda!!!!!!"
"We be blastin lasers into the face of people 3 feet away, cuz we runnin dis Pangolin party!!!!!"

They do look AWFULLY FAT beams .... so there is a good possibility that this is all safe ... i cant see that Pangolin would put media out that wasnt safe ....

My only concern ( Laser Police hat on ) is that any ol DJ with any ol laser thinks that by buying pangolin he can do this .... bit of a mistake ... i think that the vid should have some disclaimer stating that audience scanning like this should only be done with safety measures in place

well, he could elevate his status by not letting "bubstep happen..."

it is not a matter of what you buy... it is a matter of how you use it, skill and talent etc etc
heck... 10-15 years ago when i was djing a bit, the crowd was not rewarding the perfect mixing technique and the perfect lightshow.
they were going wild if one had his djbox filled with killer tunes and was able to mix them fairly well. nowadays, IF i go out to a club, i feel like eating the same thing in a different wrapping

(or, i'm afraid i have lost interest in researching my music, that is why i keep my music and light endeavours to myself, at the leisure of my living room, just for the fun of building something with my own two unskilled hands)

Yet another dumb idea by Pangolin. The only thing it was missing is the semi-naked girls from the Xmas ad's.

    What's dumb about it?

I think its a good idea and I'm not just being a fan boy here. I was trained in marketing at my last job and one of the things that sells products better than anything else to potential customers is impressive statistics and powerful testimonials.

That's why a lot of companies have testimonials (although not all do it well - eg a lot use Mrs. Blogs down the street who no-one knows and could be anyone, an actress or even a company employee), but here you see what the guy produces show wise using the software as well as hearing his comments and there will be a lot of people who see that and are genuinely inspired into thinking about using Pangolin software. Sure the music will not be to everyone's taste, but this isn't the only testimonial video out there. Sure the way its presented might not be to everyone's taste, but this is about showing off the product and that it does well.

Lets not also forget Pangolin had no input into the making of these videos. They ran a competition for the best Pangolin user testimonial and this was one of the entries. So the image portrayed is exactly the image that DJ wanted to portray - maybe that suits his type of audience. In fact talking of competition entries, our own PJ is on Youtube with his Pangolin submission.

I do agree though that given the guy is in the US, it would have been better for him to say something like "With my shows protected also with Pangolin PASS and with Pangolin's Safety Lenses, I got almost automatic acceptance for an audience scanning variance and together with Pangolin QS I can now offer shows that truly blow the mind using effects legally produced but that can't be legally replicated by most of my competition using other software and safety systems, thus giving me an advantage when it comes to filling the clubs and securing bookings against other DJ's."

That maybe slightly wordy, but if you really need a warning, that says it all.

If you wanted less wording you could always go for some more on screen fading text that said the same but was short and too the point. However, as I said these were user produced so it was the user that chose what went into the video. To me it looks very slick and obviously professionally produced, if not to everyone's taste.

What is dumb about it was the audience scanning. If he had the lens setup and pass no wonder he thinks QS is cheap. And hey who built his audience scanning laser? And Yes I agree it needs some rewording. I did not know it was user submitted videos. I still would not promote that video if I was Pangolin. QS has a feeling cheap as it is.......

I don't think it's a dumb video or idea; it will probably sell a lot of product for them which is why they are in business. I agree that the audience scanning needs to be addressed, especially here in the US. I mentioned this to them on Facebook, and Justin's reply was that 1) they had the PASS device and safety lenses (if they were in use it should have been mentioned); and 2) it's an internationally distributed video so audience scanning is OK.

IMO the video is misleading to US DJs as it is now. The two things that will always grab a DJs attention are new lights and the word upsell. It's like catnip to them. Photonphart is right that countless DJs will watch the video and think they can make more money by purchasing lasers and scanning audiences in the US.
