    Default 442nm?

    Two things struck me odd about this projector.

    First, I did not know Martin made such a large projector.

    Second, the use of a 442nm module.

    Wavelengths
    Blue .................................................. .................................................. ............................... 442 nm +/-3 nm
    Green............................................. .................................................. ............................ 532.5 nm +/-0.5 nm
    Red............................................... .................................................. ................................... 655 nm +/-5 nm

    Has anyone else looked into the use of 442nm?

    442nm... Isn't that where the Nichia blue diodes lase? (The direct injection blues, not dpss.) If so, then that projector is going to be *really* expensive!

    Then too, 442 nm is pretty far into the blue range. You'll get great colors, but the eye isn't nearly as sensitive to 442 nm as it is to the 473 nm of a dpss unit. You'd have to have even more power, which would drive the cost up.

    Still, I'd love to see one in action! I'd probably have to sell my car to pay for it though! Anyone know how much they get for one of those projectors?

    Actually less power is required to make a true white. Something about shorter wavelength's scattering better.

    ACK!!! That's nearly 50 grand! Wow... I had no idea they were *that* expensive. Sheesh...

    Re: better scattering at 442 nm vs 473 nm... Interesting. That's the first I've heard of that. I suppose it makes sense (after all, the sky *IS* blue for a reason, and that is directly related to the ease with which blue light is scattered vs other, longer wavelengths...) but I thought that the human eye's sentitivity would be the overriding factor. Eh, guess not then.

    So, given that the blue diode is so expensive, does anyone have a feel for how much they (IE: Martin) are asking for this projector?

    38,500 euro?

    We can probably get if for half that in a group buy...



    Just kidding of course. The component prices cannot be more than 9,000euro.

    I won't take that bet. You are probably right.



    What's your best guess for manufacturer's cost on all components? Modules, scanners, etc....
