well, i hate to admit, but yes, it is the 2mm dave lens...

i'll try heating a test piece of this glue on brass to see if it loosens up and at what temperature

then, i'll give the x-acto approach a go and then i can turn my drill press into a vertical late, using a xy table and a cutting tool fixed on it

if worse comes to worst, i can try and file it down and extract the lens in a process similar to the harvesting of LOCs. but this will not happen until later tonight.
in any case, i'll kepp you posted

    looks interesting.

I'll keep in in mind for future reference. I hope the dichro coatings like it too

Methylene chloride (paint stripper) applied to cured epoxy will cause it to gel and it is easy to wipe off. I haven't had any compatibility problems with glass optics or their coatings. Epoxy is very strong so you need very little. It is convenient to apply it as an accessible fillet or drop on the edge of the optic that links the optic to the mount as opposed to a wide-spread layer covered by the optic that makes access and removal much more difficult (often involving heat).
I posted this under the lasers thread. I would be careful of heat and strippers as many of these small aspheric lenses are a spherical glass lens substrate with a molded plastic layer that achieves the final shape. Some are molded glass, one step without the plastic. Dave might know.

i'm in favour of the two parts theory.

I have two pieces that prove it
