    Default Help...Need to locate M3 x .35 bolts

Well...Seems I have selected the " Unicorn " of metric sizes for an adjustment bolt for a LD mount I am working on.
The M3 x .35 is a 3mm dia bolt with a fine pitch thread of .35mm spacing between threads. This works out to about 72 threads per inch. Such a fine thread will work well for very small linear adjustments.

Problem is...I cannot locate this item...on the net...or in the USA. Perhaps....some members in Europe have a handle on this item. I would buy 50 pcs...or so. I currently have a RFQ into Eurolink. I may go with a M2 x .40...a much more common size...but would prefer the M3 x .35. Post or drop me a PM.

Oh....25mm in length would work just fine !!

    Thanx !!!!!!!...BEAM

Not in stock, but they might be able to order some in: http://www.smcpneumatics.com/M3X035X24.html

Standard metric fine pitch on small threads have more or less died out. What about standard pitch?
If you drop down to a 0.20 or 0.25mm pitch on M3, you could use these Thorlabs sell: http://www.thorlabs.com/Navigation.cfm?Guide_ID=131

If it's a one off, super critical component; get one made!
If it's a part for a design, change to a more common thread size

    Hey Beam,

if these are for your adjusable mounts then don't be so critical, a standard 2.5-3mm will do for the job at hand. I used standard 2mm threads on mine only due to the material thickness only being 2mm, otherwise 2.5-3mm standards would also have worked well enough. Besides all that, it's a set it and forget it situation, unless it's for experimental purposes and adjustment needs to be done more often.

beam wants to have something around 70tpi available while the standard m3/0.5 thread is 50 tpi and the standard m2/0.4 is 60 tpi

me thinks that 60 tpi is more than enough, so i suggest he uses this one

    Default Thanx gentlemen !!

    Thanx for the quick replies !!! Wow...those " adjusters " from Thor Labs are nice....as they should be....a little costly...but very nice. Guess it depends how " AR" I am !!! The .25 pitch = 101 TPI...So...there's the choice....M2 x .4 @ ( 63.5 TPI ) or Thor Labs @ M3 x .25 @ 101 TPI...Takes yer pick...and pay yer money !!! Both would work fine...I agree !!! Sometimes....I do go overboard !!! Must think on this !!! Yikes...I know....Yer thinkin...." Hey Beam....Just How many Angels or Photons ARE on the head of a pin " hahaha.....Later...Thanx DB....BEAM !!

    smallparts.com

Small Parts Inc. If they dont have it, you'll have to buy a die and thread your own...

Why not 0-72? Oh wait, if your heart beats while tapping 0-72....

    Never mind.

Please consider the pre=tapped slugs unless you have a tapstand. Having hand tapped 1/4-80, I'd really never like to go smaller.

Thanx Steve...Checked out Small Parts...they have a Gazzillion M3 bolts...none with a M3 x .35 pitch !! Simon sez the Metric M3 fine thread use has all but died out...er..went the way of the Dodo bird !!
So...I have one more cheapie option...Modify the M3 x .35 taps...which cost about 3.00 USD/ea locally...hack off the square end...and friction fit a brass knurled knob to the end shaft...and use that as my adjustor bolt !! Why not !! Ya know...I like brass !! BEAM
