Default The history of Laser show controllers and software, post your contributions here.

So, compiling some historical info on Lasers, controllers and software.

What was the date, and who made it.

The first one I remember was running from an Amiga but cannot remember what it was called. I too made something in 1981 ( Yikes that's spooky 31 years ago) based on a BBC Model A computer but I cannot add it because it was not commercial. I had an 18mW red HENE and a few motors driven by an RC servo controller connected to the computer, Very cheesy indeed. I remember the Laser was hugely expensive back then. I got inspired with Lasers when I first saw a show done by Laser creations ( Now LCI uk) the show was done in a huge hall in Douglas in the "isle of man" and think the system used was called a "system 7". After seeing that show I went to see Laser Creations again in Earls court where they were doing a show called "The Royal Tournament".

    Here's the List.

    Hi Andy

I think one of the first Amiga packages was the Lasermax software it also had details on how to modify the amiga for DAC output

there was also the Pangolin Laser show designer 1000 which also ran on the Amiga ( which also required the DAC mods )

    see attached manuals

    LASERMAXManual.zip

    lsddocs.zip

My first PC based system that i used in the late 90s was the Laser Illusions ISA card wich used the grafix work station (GWS) software
which was a great introduction to Laser control

    all the best

    There's also:
    Laser Electronics Zion
    Laser Electronics Millenium
both been around for quite a few years as the first used an ISA card.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

LSD1000 (Laser Show Designer) Ran on a Amiga using the sound circuits and two level power LED in the Amiga. LED On Bright = Shutter. Circa 1992 Pangolin (I owned it on a Amiga 500) Pangolin Product. Obviously having LSD in the product name implied bad connotations, so there was the later name change on Pagolin products.

LD400 Pangolin, Amiga, Added in card called QuadMod 16, replaced the Paula sound chip on the amiga, allowed color control and X-Y
    Yep, X=Y+ 2 channels for color/intensity = "QUADMOD"

Pangolin, Laser Show Designer, and Showtime! ran on PC, used ISA Bus QM32 card.

X29 precursor to Full Auto, by New Method Lasers.
ISA card, TTL color. 12 Bit X-Y

Laser Media Zap. Zap ran on a Z80 on a S100 Bus, controlled by a dumb terminal.

Choreographics fits in here some where, ran on a MAC.

Lets not forget "Merlin", "Lasergraph DSP", the Tarm "LACON" series.

    etc.
