    Default Anyone using sms2laser?

I've been contemplating this for some time and, I think it's time to research it more in depth. Anyone using Pango's sms2laser with any regularity? Pro's? Con's? A couple things I noticed tonight and, I should probably direct it to Justin or Bill but, I think they're fraternizing with the enemy right now. (Some visit to Laserworld or some such nonsense.) Anyway, it looks like retail is $700 and it includes LivePro. It's available for use with either the QM2000 or an FB3. The order page only makes reference to the QM2000 though.

My thinking is, since LivePro for Quickshow (FB3) is normally $345 and I've been thinking about that anyway, being able to offer a cool feature such as the sms2laser to proms, weddings and such for only an additional $355 is pretty appealing. I think 1, maybe 2 weddings would cover the cost of buying it. Plus prom season is in a couple weeks and I'm sure kids would eat something like that up.

Anybody using it with any success?

    Hi Brad

I used to use IMU/VMU/SMStoLaser quite a lot when I was doing commercial shows. It's a great system that works extremely well, in fact i've even done a few gigs where all they wanted was the text messaging service! It takes a short while to set up correctly and it's worth the effort of adding every swear word you can think of to the database. I let my kids do this for me .

I've also used it with a video projector and screen (separate licence required). The average amount of texts received in a 'normal' student night was probably in the region of 300/400. Another useful feature is that you can store all the numbers and messages and write them to a disc to present to the Bride and Groom etc. Alternatively you could use these for marketing your next gig or just give them to the promoter. It's a great way of harvesting mobile numbers .

The latest version of IMU seems to work with a much larger range of modems. I actually bought a Multitech modem off Pangolin, but I sold this when I no longer had a commercial need for the program. However, i've just recently done a couple of small gigs and I got IMU to work with a standard 3G dongle, something that earlier versions of IMU wouldn't do. SMSto Laser will be making an appearance at a private party this weekend

One final thought... You need to let folks know that it isn't a 'premium' network service, otherwise they'll be wary of using it and think they have to pay extra for texts. Once you get the message across that texts are at standard rate or part of their monthly allowance there'll be no stopping them

    Cheers

    Jem

I think Bill is travelling to Prolight. However he may be making other stops who knows.

LW are a big vendor now they've bought several other companies, so from a commercial sense I suppose it makes sense to tap into their sales if that is what is happening.

Oh, I know. I was kidding a bit. Love 'em or hate 'em, (LW) it only make sense for Pango to tap into their market to market controllers. Rumours are there are product reports submitted to CDRH in this country for variances on some of their models as well.

Humm.. positives in public, negatives in private. For those that like it... how did you find the actual set up and implimentation? Did you think it was intuitive or was there a lot of trial and error in figuring it out?

Laserworld's product reports = old news. This would be at LEAST round 3 for that. Even if they were sent in it does not mean they will be approved much like the last times. Laserworld's problem, IMHO, is not paperwork, it is massive hubris.
