Default PL Wiki. I started a new section.

    Hi all,

I started a new section in the Wiki for laser diodes. It is just the beginning and a first attempt to make some test sections.

Any one who wishes to fill in spots is welcome to do so. I just put some basic stuff in so you can get the idea. Feel free to add stuff or make it better.
There is so much info around here but most of it is burred in a gazillion threads and the search feature does not work really well.
I think it would be great if we could start to organize it into something searchable and readable.

    Any way have fun.

I have found a couple of commands so far. If you need to just click on edit on any of my sections and you can see how I formatted things. Maybe Spec Will chime in with a list of official commands. I couldn't find a help file.

= 'subject' = makes a page separator and bolds the 'subject' text.
[[ 'pagetitle' ]] makes a link to a new page with the name 'pagetitle'

    don't include the ' marks.
    go for it!

    Thumbs up Dude! Rock Star!!!

Nice-werk, Man!... Thanks for taking this by the horns... been meaning to do this since the 'Safety Wiki' got-born, but... I'm only on #8,356,789 in my to-do lists..... and this was a bit further-down..

    Anyhoo, I've already 'shamelessly-edited' / added-to a couple pages ...

..to demo to everyone how 'easy' it is... Don't be 'afraid', cause #1, I'm sure Cap'n Spec has everything cached out the wazookie, and #2, I try and also 'cache' it (..at least the Safety-stuff.. now, will *try* and also keep this great-new stuff, too.. )

..but, *Do*, also, try and 'get familiar' with the tools, etc, and - remember: "Preview" is your friend - so you don't turn the whole Wiki into ascii-oatmeal on your first-entry.. And, as-always, if you're just feeling too 'gun-shy' to add / make an edit, I'm sure that a quick PM to one of the 'section-chiefs', and/or Admin, will cheerfully get yer cookies added to the jar, in a jiff...

Couple *suggestions* for some 'rules' -

#1 - Of course, don't embed any 'copyrighted' info / works, from external-sources, w/O at *least* mentioning / x-linking to the source / author, site, Co., etc.. even-if from something 'public', like Wikipedia.. if you 'cut and paste' info / pix, etc, *give credit where credit is due*, and, where-possible, just use the external-link, and 'call it out as-such', so people know they are 'leaving' PL, before they click.

#2 - IMHO - There should be ZERO 'commercial links' / sales-promotion, from ANYBODY. INSIDE The Wiki is *NOT* the place for 'GB's or promoting-something... The Wiki should-be INFORMATIONAL-ONLY (imho ) I am fairly sure I can 'speak for the Janitor', in-that if people start posting 'Dis is how Yuu can Du diss ting, hew.. (..oh, and 'btw', I just so-happen to be 'running a special' this-month, click here..' you would incur a stern-warning, rather quickly...

..'But, how do you 'inform' w/O 'promoting'? Well, I would propose that - again, it simply be INFORMATIONAL.. ie: "Diode Drivers have been developed by PL-Member Dr Lava (..and any 'link' is to his PL-PROFILE ONLY, NOT a 'sales-page'... it's up to each person to 'contact a seller' / initiate sales-info gathering, OUTSIDE of the Wiki..) and the Driver characteristics / specs (cold-hard facts..) are: "Such and So"...

..my 'point' is, if we, as a community, are not über-strict about keeping the Wiki 'un-biased', and informative only, it will spiral into a 'he said / she said' ball of crap, inside of a month.. INFORMATION, NOT 'promotion', is all I am hard-core suggesting..

#3 - This *especially* should-apply to stuff like 'DACs' and Software and Galvos and Projectors... There should be FACTS and FIGURES, ONLY - NOTHING that 'smacks of promotion'... including external sales-links (imo..) Again - INFORMATION, NOT 'promotion'..

#4 - Please remember that the Wikis.. are not 'Threads' ..NOT the place for 'questions to be posed, for answers', or 'discussion' about, ie: the 'merits of a certain lens' vs another, etc, between two members.. That's what *threads* and posts are-for, NOT the Wiki... Facts and Figures, nothing more... ...See the 'Safety-Section' as an example...

Sorry to be so 'passionate' about this, but I just hate to see the Wiki devolve into a 'sales-biased rancor-bath', between commercial PL'ers..

    Thoughts? Spitballs? Am I fired?

    thanks again, Chad-o...
