No problem, I think it was someone here that pointed out that I was wrong about using a dove to rotate polarization. Live and learn.

Yeah I got nailed for the polarization one too. Dove works great for images in "parallel" light, does not do what you think it does for polarization.

Here's a diagram from many years ago that piqued my interest. Having never built the means to drive this, I have no idea how viable this would be...

Dang you/Thank you!, , I spent two hours searching for that photo on line, could not find it.. Its from a 1980s or 90s Scientific American blurb on laser shows. The guys name was Tanovic and he used a multi-line krypton into the dove via scan through effects and a strobe wheel.

cool. i was already thinking about something neat along these lines, but now it's a moral imperative.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Steve,

Yes sir - Abid Tanovic is credited with this. Just thought folks here might like to see some of the early ideas using dove prisms. For those interested, this was from the January 1981 "Amateur Scientist" section in Scientific American magazine (thank you Jearl Walker!).

I've had the magazine all these years, but the entire collection of Amateur Scientist articles can be had from Surplus Shed, via the "Super Science Fair Edition v4.0" CD-ROM (Item No: M2071). Easily worth the $24.00 that it sells for.

Anyone ever read "Light and its Uses"? A nice Scientific American book penned by Jearl Walker for early laser enthusiasts. Long out of print
Lent out my copy and never saw it again...

    Swami,

FYI - If you're serious about building one, I sourced a larger pillow block through Grainger's. But I'm sure these are readily available elsewhere too.

Mine arrived middle of last week. Took it to FLEM but we didn't get a chance to play with it. The vxb link may be helpful as this prism is larger than I expected. (Not unhappy with that though.)

Swami, pillow blocks usually have run-out issues at high speed. Go see what is setting at Karl's.
    Has a large bore.
