Well maybe, but right now the sensor board just detects the reflection of the beam as a change in brightness, but it doesn't look at the amount of change in brightness. You need to set an offset and the note gets triggered when the sensor detects light above this offset level. I don't know how difficult it is to implement the detection of variable brightness levels, but that's something for the engineers. Not saying it is impossible, but it won't work with the current generation of boards.

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it. I'm aware that there is a harp out there that has the functionality I suggested, I just wondered what was involved in upgrading the current boards.

    Cheers

I believe it works differently, with a Wii sensor that detects were exactly the beam gets interrupted. But that's just from memory, it could be something completely else as well.

Yes, I think you're correct. I'm sure the modulatable (is that a word?) harp made use of a Wii controller to control the modulation. It would be real cool if someone could work on that

Just a pity a Wii is a bit too expensive to use for this application... and that would just be the sensor!

In the mean time, better get my own harp working. Anyone got some laser modules they want to let go of cheaply?

Yes, the laser harps that allow moving your hand up and down in the beam utilize a little sensor you can _only_ obtain from the wiimotes. There is literally no other source of them.

That said, wiimotes can be had for about $13 from dealextreme. Once I have a bit more money to play with I may grab one and see if I can implement it.
