Default eyescanning and "fatbeam" laser optics.. Legal?

Hey, I went to a club locally here that was advertizing a hot new lasershow. It was a pair of Chavuet Viper RPM. Now on the website is says that they are fitted with a 435nm 15mw blue and 650nm 15mw red. thats 30mw in magentia. So is the new laser optics lowering the emissions value to all audience scanning of a 30mw or better lasers? this is in washington state. I HAVE to use under 5mw for any audience scanning.. and the reason I dont audieance scan. SOOoo if there are additional optics that I should be looking at? If so where?
    Thanks

Its not just additional optics, its additional math, and measurements.
If some one is inspecting you, you need to show your work.

no <5mw means you dont need a variance, for LEGAL audience scanning you cant exceed Class I which IIRC is <1.5mW or something like that 5mW is IIIa

The chauvuet fat beam lasers are legal to scan down. I just went through this in June with Woody. He looked through some videos on YouTube that had my fat beams scanning down. Sent him pictures of my lasers and fax him over my receipts of me purchasing the lasers. After that it was all good.

heh, goes to show they dont even know their own rules...

the chauvets do not need a variance, but that does not mean you can audience scan with them (which technically if you follow the letter of the law you CAN NOT audience scan with them)

same way you can have a 4.95mW projector (IIIb) without any kind of paperwork attached to it, but that does not mean you can audience scan with it (which cant exceed Class I)

Pangolin's new safety lenses will achieve what you want.

1/2 way down in this newsletter: http://www.pangolin.com/NEWSLETTER/2...ewsletter.html

If you want to do de-focusing on the cheap then you can use a standard lens.

However, the Pangolin ones have been specially chosen for material and coating to reduce back reflection. They're also 1/2 lenses to allow full power above the horizon.

I'm sure Jem could tell you more than I can as he works in that field.

However, in the US, you still need an audience scanning variance as I understand it.

Just a technical correction to the OP. It's a Chauvet "Scorpion RVM" and its 15mW of "405nm". Is a club really advertising a "hot new laser show" featuring these?? That poor club... 'cause as much as I like Chauvet stuff, these ain't "all that!" At least not a focal point I'd pay money to advertise.

while those lenses are great you are still not going to get an audience scanning variance because of them... you would still need something like PASS
