For the auditorium, I would REALLY like to see a 40 minute blow-your-socks-off show. After that, I would probably have my fill of it. I'm talking multi project beam + graphics shows. It only amounts to about 10 songs. One way to make it a social event is to have everyone that plans on going contribute to those shows and that will make it more interesting and maybe we can get everyone into the auditorium to watch them. In fact, I think there should be a few scheduled "main events" that take place and everyone is pretty much expected to go or be on their own. I know that getting 10 shows made will be a challenge and that is only due to laziness. We have a year to get it done.

Club SELEM was fun. I would have stayed longer Saturday night if not for the hip hop music. Perhaps we can make it so that everyone can bring some of their favorite music and have a 15 minute or so live set. That might make it a little more interesting. And perhaps make an official Club SELEM social hour and have some snacks, drinks, etc, in there so it will give people a reason to check it out. Kind of like a mini party. With just a bunch of nerdy guys I know it's a little lame but isn't that basically what SELEM is all about?

Anyway, just trying to think of ways to get people involved with what is going on so. I think part of the fun at SELEM is setting stuff up and I don't think it is because setting up a bunch of equipment is fun but because you get to do it with other people.

Also, if you are going to have the cafeteria and auditorium in the future, I see no reason to also use the classroom upstairs. It's just more space to clean up and be liable for.

Trouble is, a lot of it is burried in long shows that have both old and new frames in them. Example: John showed me some of the digisynth stuff, and after 3 or 4 shows I was ready to head for the door because it didn't look all that impressive. But then he played one show that really knocked my socks off. So there are great shows to be seen, but someone needs to sort through them first...
There are several I am thinking of that are very good end to end so, this shouldn't be a problem next year.

(BTW Brad - the reason the higher-power projectors go up top is for safety and because they would wash out - that is, overpower - the other projectors if mounted on the lower shelf.)
Yeah... I know. I was more lamenting the fact that, being vertically challenged, hoisting the heavy ones up top is a bit tough! LOL Actually, I had a thought right after you replied that would be a very simple solution. On the bottom scaffolding, have a second plank behind the first one where the projectors are. That way there is something solid to stand on while lifting them up to the top section. Plus, that provides a place to rest the projector while you climb up on the scaffold to move it to the top shelf. What we DON'T want is someone accidentally dropping a muti-thousand dollar box from 8 feet up.

I also have a thought about some additions to Club SELEM next year but will need to draw it, scan it and post it here tomorrow.

Even though I wasn't there this year, I have same feed back from past experience. I love going to this event and one of the biggest thrills for me is seeing my humble little or on stage next to 10 or 12 other monsters. I still show off pictures to friends of all the projectors running at the same time and point out mine proudly. To be part of this group is the biggest thrill to me.
I also enjoy showing newer members how I designed and layed out my system, helping them as you all helped me.
I can't comment on Club SELEM since I didn't experience it.
I think the pictures Hak took this year and hysterical, which brings up a point. We need to do more pictures in general. I loved the panorama taken a few years ago of everyone sitting on stage during the door prize drawing. A group photo may be a good idea if we can arrange it. Not necessarily a formal one either with everyone standing like statues. Make it (SELEM like) what ever that means. I'm sure someone will come up with something good.
Just my opinions. Take them for what they are worth.
    Chris

I copied this whole post because I agree with so much of it. This was my second SELEM as it was for my two sons. We enjoyed the meeting, but unlike the first, the newness (read amazement) was gone and there were long periods of "I don't no what to do or where to go". There was much to see, but what makes the meeting interesting is finding something new, seeing someone you have communicated with thru the year or learning a technique or solution to a problem.

I would be very interested in seeing several presentations by individuals or groups or companies (Pangolin did this). This could be scheduled well in advance and the shows as well as "The Club" could concentrate their activities between these events so that you need not wander back and forth to see who is where or miss anything.
