Just a few heads up. The route we take between the Holiday Inn and downtown Newton is closed so there is a small detour. In addition, I-40 west from exit 132 (Newton/Conover) gets closed completely at night so, if we go to Hickory for dinner, plan on some new routes working our way back.

And buffo, I threw some more in after the pic so, very little rear view ability. Hey... if there's more room, you throw in more lasers right??? Think I have a total of either 8 or 9. Not sure. Left a few at home.

Safe travels all! It's 1:05 in Conover and all is well!

Hey DrEvil! I didn't see this previously - my e-mail notification doesn't appear to be working. Many thanks for the thought. I don't know when I'm heading up, but I'll likely be driving mid afternoon tomorrow, returning home for the night and attending again on Saturday. (A three month old child and a working wife don't allow for a great deal of flexibility.)

Look forward to meeting you and the other folks attending!

Day 1, the "pre-SELEM" day came to a close at about 12:30 last night and for the most part was uneventful. Aside from some small bumps and bruises, sore backs, and many suffering from road wearyness, a big part of the set up as been done. Ever the engineers, DZ, rgb-gas, Buffo, DJ Matt, flecom, etc, thought out of the box and managed to run 3 phase and water cooling to the balcony for the main graphics laser. Yep.... Running ions in the auditorium this year!

Mario brought a trailer with enough sound equipment to make even The Who sit up and take notice. Overkill being the name of the game, there now sit two subs on stage, each about the size of a compact car, and about 6 or 8 more cabinets of various sizes that actually brought people running with their decibel meters when switched on. I'll be ensuring I sit close to an exit as there is just a *bit* of nervousness about something in this 100 year old building collapsing or falling from the ceiling before the weekend is out!

Set up transitioned into a fine dinner at Texas Roadhouse where, as is often the case, conversation rapidly bounced from lumia to chicken pox, from diode comparison to the american indians, from CDRH regulations to what restaurants have been sued for employees singing "happy birthday" to patrons. The diehards still managed a bit of quality time in the conference room of the hotel before turning in for the night, with bits of lumia glass and some pointers.

Yes, SELEM 2012 is very much underway as people continue to roll in from various parts of the country and the beginning of what should once again, be an incredible weekend.... spent with some of the greatest folks on the planet.

The auditorium is set up really nice this year. Perfect balance of projectors and no clutter on stage so its even more aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, I was too tired to enjoy it and went back to the hotel early.

WOW! ions on the stage.... Must be nice to be there. Really wish I could be there. Really really really,

but my work schedule prevented it.

BFGoodrich volunteerly recalled 800,000 tires a couple weeks ago. They had 142 tires out of almost a million that had similar problems so they recalled over two years worth of production. We sold ~300 in 2011, not counting the last 3 quarters of 2010 and 1Q2012 (another few hundred). That shows integrity of the Michelin family of companies, in my opinion, but it creates a butt-load of extra work for me and the guys in the shop. It was only 2 sizes of one style, but I have several fleets that use that very tire. We're averaging replacing- 4-7 sets/day, and yeah, i have to do all the paperwork and be there to oversee. I suppose safety is utmost importance, be it lasers or tires.

Hopefully we'll be back next year in full force with projectors and BBQ. We miss feeding y'all, miss all the good friends and miss the photons.

    Have fun you guys!

    (Be careful DZ )

Wish you could be here mophead. I almost forgot about you due to lack of posts, I guess. It's sort of a down SELEM this year. Fun, but there are definitely some faces missing that makes it different than it has been. I think it might be a record year for young women, though. haha. There must be 3 or 4 of them at least. One was almost dancing at club SELEM.
