Post Have: M140 laser need LasOrb Protection, wich model?

    Hi all..

Got my diode today. I need to know that protection i need for it. I have ordered a Flexmod p3 driver from:

    http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/FlexModP3.php

I ordered a "blue" Is that right?

I can see that there are a "Blueray" too?

Have i ordered the wrong one?

    Regards Miccim

you don't really need protection on the m-140 it has some built in, and they are very hard to kill as they come.

I have 4 diodes in a quad and I don't have lasorbs on them, running fine with a P3, no problems for over a year.

Obviously if your handling the diode a lot then you will need to be cautious about static.
    Squat that bug,

One day I'll finish my build.

The A-140s definitely needed protection, and we made the '683 series specifically for them. You can find the datasheet here:
    http://www.lasorb.com/LASORB_L44-683-X.pdf

By the way, a few laser diode manufacturers have licensed our LASORB design for use directly inside the laser diodes themselves. This is being handled by our intellectual property firm, so I am not aware of whether or not the M140s have it or not.

As we have said on our web site, the higher the power the laser diode, the less sensitive it is. C-Mount laser diodes seem very resilient indeed!

We'll acquire some M-140s and do our own testing and then we'll know for sure, the limits of their ability to withstand ESD and power surges.

    Best regards,

The M-140's do not have a 'protection device', however, they are very tough. The 9mm can versions DO have an, as of yet unidentified extra component that is wired in parallel with the die.

    Ty all.

    Now back to the question:

Does anyone know if the blue is the right one og do i have to use a blueray model?

Blue is the correct one. Bluray is for the 405nm (violet) diodes not the 445nm (blue).

    Hi Chad,

Thanks for the info. I'm in the process of acquiring M140s right now. Regarding the 9mm versions, do you know where I can acquire a few to do some testing?

Hi Bill, you can get them from a member named "DTR" I believe. He does have an account here, or there is some more info here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/dt...-us-61635.html
