Default Spectra Physics 155 HeNe Laser

    Hi all

I have a nice Spectra Physics 155 laser here. Output is only about .5mW, but it's the usual great beamspecs that you get from a HeNe. This is a nice laser just to have in your collection. Overall in great condition and fires up instantly

    Measurements are a cute 380mm x 87mm x 65mm

Asking £45 including postage to UK mainland

    Cheers

my first job at spectra physics in june of 1978 was installing the tube in the tube mounts, soldering two wires (anode and cathode to PCB), adjusting the current, cleaning the output, sliding the PCB in the grooves, holding the transformer plate on the back and installing 4 phillips screws took about 5 minutes each...repeat all day 8 hours a day for one year...then you got promoted to 162-03 air cooled argon lasers.

    SP - 155...nice laser...I know them well

    Hey Pat

That's really interesting to hear, it all adds to the history. You never know, you might actually have assembled this one

They seem to be incredibly robust and very well made lasers. I suspect they were made for the educational market, schools, colleges, universities etc.

If you have any other snippets of information I'd love to hear them.

Interestingly, you came up in conversation the other day. I was talking to someone about missile launch silo's in the USA. They said they had heard that someone once fired a laser out of one. I said that person was a member here, he couldn't believe that I knew who it was. The way he was talking about you elevated you to celebrity status

You obviously made history when you pulled that off. Just though you'd like to know

    Cheers

haha... thanks...but I was only OZ behind the curtain....Photonbeam (steve j) here on PL was the GURU on project Starlite...He has the information somewhere with pics and the story..

I dont want to thread jack your 155 thread but I just wanted to chime in about my first job at SP...I started at the bottom and worked my way up. I'll pm steve and have him start a thread about project starlite.

No worries about the threadjacking, your story is much more interesting than my sale of a mere SP155, I really don't mind at all

Yeah, it would be cool to hear the 'Starlight' story again. I'm sure there was a thread here on PL somewhere in the past... Or did I dream it , I've definately read about it somewhere, perhaps National Geographic or some such publication.

Look forward to reading the 'Starlight' thread.. Do i remember correctly that the doors had seized and you had to blast them off to gain access ???

    Cheers
