a quick search turned up with nothing, so i have to ask
has anybody worked with this one? http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...578477257.html
is it multimode? any horrible beam specs or something usable?

"its called character briggs..."
Hi Lanek,
could they be the same as http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...#ht_3662wt_946 ???
If yes, they are single mode ( look at the beam divergences , 9° and 19°)
180mW @ 260mA,
they have exactly the same efficiency as Opnext HL63133DG 170mW diodes![]()
After a quick research,
here is what I found (Mitsubishi RED laser diode available in june 2012)
Attachment 33346
Conclusion : this is not a Mitsu diode![]()
It is definately not this one, as the one i am taling about is a to38 can (3,8mm diode)
It looks promising, maybe i get around to buying a couple. I have no means to test for wavelength, just some 660 and 640 diodes and some cheap diffraction gratings... ok, maybe i have a means to test for wavelength

I think ML229U7 is the name of DVD sled or something else.Iirc i´ve seen something on a chinese webpage that shows a DVD sled but it says 250mw 648-660nm.

the diode is the same as the one on the groupbuy from LPF :

So if it is this diode, it can be drived at 3X rated current, max 4X
(look at the video page 2, diode is runned at 1.1A for a few seconds)
If this is a 650-660nm diode with plenty of SINGLE MODE power and one that's tough enough, that's promising enough.
I think a lot of us will want some replacement for the dreadful LPC-826 diodes which tend to drop like flies... this one looks a lot more user-friendly. Also, with the price of these in the LPF group buy, I guess we can throw the long open cans in the bin.
Having an 1W dual 660 with just two of these diodes and a cube, now THAT's totally worth it. As far as the well-known 'case negative' issue is concerned, somebody has a brilliant solution here:

Will these go in a Dave's clamp down diode mount or is there some trick to get them properly seated with 3,8mm cans?
Sounds easy enough to me. Two of these diodes, two mounts, a Flexmount, PBS, Flexmod P3 at 800 milliamps and presto -- a full Watt of 660.
