Looked like they had someone on the 40th floor with a laser pointer!

Seriously though, not sure it could be called a light show. Bit disappointed if Hugo was involved. You would have thought they would have tried something more spectacular and maybe placed banks of smoke machines on adjoining buildings to at least try and get some haze in the air.

I think a few people on here could have had a better go!

    Was that it ?!?!

I expected to see the most amazing laser show... ever... I skipped bits of that video..

I can *honestly* say.. I've seen better outdoor displays in Surfleet.

    Gutted.

I went to see this as have a really good view of the Shard from where I live. There were crowds of people all waiting for an amazing display, after it finished they were all still standing around for about 15 mins waiting for it to start thinking it was running late

Now you see why there was all the secrecy before the event

Seriously though, a huge let down for what was billed for the inauguration of the building. In the days running up to the show, the Shard’s facebook page had a map of London telling you where to view this spectacle from, suggesting vantage points even out down to the south east of the city, on Shooter’s Hill.

Instead, today the owners can read their facebook page full of comments mocking and moaning at what seems to be universally described as a damp squib of an event.

The Shard website now has an edited version of the show, where they use a close up shot of the lasers, which does look slightly better. (But I think the two people clapping at the end probably best sum it up)

To be fair to the laser element, that was a vast space they had to deal with, which is why relying on the lasers alone is risky business. The other lighting and search light effects, could have helped to take some of the pressure of the laser expectations.

Failing that, you are going to have to use a bunch of these 400W green beasties

At the end of the day it looks like the budget was just not there to create the spectacle that was hyped. And the laser providers where doing the best they can.

For me Deadmau5 at Millbank last November was a far better spectacle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiVx7PCcW4k (from 14:40s for some video mapping loveliness)

Also goes to prove that no amount of power will overcome unfavourable weather conditions.
I did an outdoor gig a few weeks back where a perfect mist came down at 1am and 800mW looked like 8000W!

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Seems like there is a lot of ambient light around the city.

Never been to London. Is it normally that lit up?

This lasershow isnt a yearly event it was just a one of for the launch of the building. If you mean you intend to just visit the building its well worth a visit on a clear day! Make sure you take a piss before you go up as there are no toilets at the top!
