    Default Settings question

    Hi guys,

Can anyone explain what the difference between analog with linear response or analog with log response is please?

    Thanks

linear is straight , log is a curved response, google can help with a more detailed explanation i expect
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

With linear the power increases directly in proportion to the increase in voltage in a straight line. So for any given increase in voltage, you see a correspondingly incremental increase in power.

With log response, the output power is an algorithm of the voltage applied and this in turn results in a curved response where the power does not increase in direct proportion to the voltage applied. ie its non linear and doesn't increase in equal increments to the voltage. A typical log response graph is often like an elongated stretched S shape or 1/2 S shape.

Like Chris said, there are probably more comprehensive laser specific technical explanations on the Wiki or places like that.

I presume the reason your asking is in order to set the correct response curve in your software's settings. I suggest you contact the laser manufacturer for advice. Failing that, you can try both settings and then try out different cues. If you have the selected the wrong response, you'll find the colours of some cues are wrong as the lasers responses don't match those of the colour palette due to incorrect mixing proportions.
