    Default Let's guess the spammers...

    Sounds like fun huh?

I keep seeing new members join and some of them have names that... just don't seem to mesh or be original enough to be a REAL user... I just wanted to call them out for fun.

Yes, I have too much downtime at work.

piano being the first, or latest... In the profile the "www" link for website, duh, says "find-love".info  Is ".info" a real domain area? We need sites like, "Find a scanner you'll love.", or "Love of Optics", not a dating service... :P

    JumpforJoy...
NiceAsGirl... Hmmm, there's a good one...
WOW, all these blogspots... cialis, ambien, we got some high grade members here. Ya'll donate come of those phamasutical profits to our laser obsessions while ya'll are here? Valiumorder... sould's like a winner to me... Ewww, for got about viagra... O, and xanax. That IS a cool name though... I wish I could spell my name backwards and forwards the same way...

I got it, ban anyone who doesn't post 5 times in their first week of joining and make a 1 post per week minimum unless you, Spec, know who it is. Either through conversation or posting context...

Let us not forget the spammer that started the deluge of accounts that forced me, if only by proxy, to moderate all new users and pull out my hair deleting 50 user accounts a week before I lose the will to live:

User number 190, ohh I barely knew ye. With a name like pajood5s9jwx I knew it was love at first site... I tried getting a restraining order after you slammed every thread with a "blog comment stylized link" However I couldn't find "w72hsaf9672admvc" on the map... much less an address... or a police station... Or even a jealous ex who likes guns a little too much...

Stupid bots... It was crap like this that made me theorize about just how bad "those big sites" must have it.

They have more resources for combating that kind of stuff. Why do they come here? What do they get from it? :?

From all i have been able to gather they get "higher google page-ranking" if their site is linked to from other sites: I guess from the spammers perspective there are enough forums out there they can profile spam to tilt the table in their favor enough to increase ad revenue.

Business models like that are the reasons why murder was made a major felony in this country.

Yes, there are ways: a few of the really good ones involve hacking the forum software. Ive seen success rates in excess of 95% that way *but*(and heres the big problem) those hacks usually kill the forum when a software update comes along(every couple months)

I completely lost an install to one about a year ago. good thing I had backups.

As far as Sasha is concerned: She seems like she would be a wealth of forum administration information but she uses a different forum software package.

Comparing the two are like comparing chocolate cake and mustard. They both have sugar in them, sort of.

The more feature requests I get here the more I realize they could be handled by Vbulletin instead of PHPBB2.
